Laziness and apathy have brought us here. The only way to turn this around is a grassroots effort. On July 12th I posted a thread on the Baton Rouge tea party and how they are fighting this very thing. They are also lobbying for our 2nd Amendment rights. Sadly, it only got two replies and no one expressed interest/support in it. If you are not keeping up with coming state/federal legislation and writing, faxing, calling your representatives telling them to vote for/against it you are part of the problem.
would participate in the tea party movement (i have gone to the rallies, i'm referring to meeting) but i meet with a more established political group on the fourth thursday of each month which usually conflicts with your meetings. if i had to guess i would say that a larger percentage of the people on this site oare involved in some way or another, whether its calling there reps or going to tea parties, than the general population.
famous speech, we're definately there with. social security, medicare, minimum wage, about to have nationalized healthcare, government motors, bank bail outs, i could go on.
Funny, on the 12th, when I got on the BR teaparty's email, I had just written an email to Sen's Vitter and Landrieu stating "if you vote for Sotomayor, I will not be voting for you...
Got a response from Vitter today:
Dear Mr. Price,
Thank you for contacting me in opposition to the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
As you know, President Obama has nominated Judge Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court, which requires confirmation by the Senate. Now I will study her record and philosophy carefully.
Like you, I have concerns with statements she has made that indicate she may engage in judicial activism and legislate from the bench rather than simply interpreting and applying the law and the Constitution, which is the proper role of a Supreme Court justice. Rest assured I will keep your thoughts in mind as I carefully review Judge Sotomayor's record and views during the confirmation process.
Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about any other issue important to you.
Sincerely,
Senator David Vitter
United States Senator
Yes, we do care and I do believe we are more involved than "the herd".
