It's been awhile since I've been in the market for an AR. I've been adding nice AKs to the collection recently. Now that we are adding a new member to the family, it's time to add another AR as my others will be passed down to the kids eventually.

I have two options that I was thinking.

1: Save a few more pennies and just buy a new LE6920. Then swap out the parts with what I want. Troy Alpha tube, different grip and stock, BUIS, light and Aimpoint. Or.....

    2: Build it from scratch.

I'm not needing anything fancy. Just want something very reliable. An AR that can handle classes and competitions without falling apart. I really like how my mid length feels but not opposed to a carbine length gas system either. I'm going to put a longer hand guard on it anyway. I've seen some 18" barreled versions that intrigued me. So many options....

    Any opinions?

If this is an option price Daniel defense v7 comes with free float tube and is optics ready. I was thinking of going the same route but found the ddm4b7 was cheaper than going with the colt and adding a free float tube. Just my .02 cents

I in the process of building one myself.
I don't find that it's more or less expensive than the one I bought,
but I get to make it the way I want, so in fact maybe it is a bit cheaper.
And it's a lot more fun and educational.

Build it yourself. You can find uppers and lowers cheap if you shop and put a quality barrel and trigger on it. ARP had some barrels in stock.
