Beautiful Cat!I shot 100 rounds of .357 mag out of mine this morning - flawless.
My Taurus 689:
I have owned several Taurus revolvers and pistols. All have been superb guns. My PT-111 G2 has a problem with one of the magazines dropping inadvertently, and I suspect that has to do with the rather narrow lip that holds the magazine in. I need to send it to Taurus ... just haven't gotten around to it yet. I have read online that other PT-111's have exhibited this problem, but I don't know to what extent.
My Taurus wheel guns have always been flawless. So even if I was less than enthusiastic about having a Taurus pistol as a defensive carry weapon, I wouldn't hesitate to carry one of their wheel guns. My experience with those has been nothing but positive.

The gen1 PT111s had issues....mag release and faulty firing pin to name a few issues. There is a current recall on those models. The G2 (gen2 PT111) fixed allot of those issues but still had the mag release problem. The recent G2C fixed the mag release problem and enhanced the trigger blade. The double action trigger is still long but not creepy. It has a clean break at the end and a very short reset. All in all, the G2C is an improvement of the G2. My previous G2 displayed no problems with over 1000 rounds and now my brother owns it and still functioning flawlessly. I recently picked up a G2C but still need to get around to shooting it.
Agreed. One simply has to hold and inspect the 2 to make that conclusion.
@Jdindadell, no pot stirring from me, but it seems like the primary distinction you make between Taurus and other brands is related to the difference in price. I would think most people do not expect a Taurus to be a Beretta or a Smith & Wesson or a Colt, etc. That’s sort of like finding fault in a $20k Civic because it doesn’t run and handle like a $100k Porche... do you expect a $200 pistol to look, feel and perform like a $600 pistol?
Here’s a fair comparison, all 3 of the 9mm autos and the .40 Taurus brand pistols I own make me happier than the Springfield XD and both of the S&W M&P shield pistols....I used to own. Both shields had about the crappiest trigger of any auto I’ve ever shot and the XD would not reliably eat half the HP ammo I tried in it. All 3 of those I purchased new and for more money. The concerns I had with them were a little more concerning than simply the way the gun felt or looked on the inside. I get the concerns as far as the internals, but many people still say the same stuff about Glock.
I own quite a few H&K, Beretta, Sig, Colt, Glock, Smith, Ruger, etc, many high dollar handguns so it’s not just about saving a buck for me. Btw, 1911 and German Luger are my top 2 picks for a sweet shooter.
So back to price point, I think anyone would be hard pressed to find a new pistol for $200 that better than the Taurus pistols I own, although I did recently see a Sigma going for $259 at academy. So I bought it...
Didn’t quote the entire post:Price new to new is not a fair comparison, I agree with that. I certainly do not expect a 200 dollar pistol to compare to a 600 dollar pistol. But what does Taurus sell for 200 bucks?
If your taurus products make you happy than that is just fine with me!!! The bulk of these guns are just toys for dudes anyway!!
Beautiful Cat!
Thanks Magdump -- I never thought a revolver would get people's attention but when I take the 689 out everybody wants to send six shots downrange with it -- hurts my wallet as .357 Mag ammo is pricey!! hahahaha

The retail on the two gen 2 PT-111, 709 slim and 740 slim was $199 each from PSA and Kentucky Gun Co. So it looks like Taurus sells quite a few for 200 bucks.
I don’t see how the sigma is a bad purchase either. But seriously, you can’t put people in a particular gun buying category because they purchase low price firearms. I still buy plenty of the big boy major name brand high price guns too friend. A walk through my place might surprise you if you think that way. Beretta 92? Sure, I like them. I own 5. Bought my first one in the early 90’s just before that
H&K P7 M10 that nobody thought much of. I got a few H&K and Sig pistols taking up space. I don’t have any 320 or 365 pistols tho. I heard they have had their share of $200 pistol problems...
My point is, I’m smart enough to see a bargain and don’t let public opinion drive my purchase plan. As to the original question posed by the OP, sure, I trust Taurus for what they are. I got no reason not to. Looks like quite a few people do as well. Maybe because not every gun I own do I plan to take into combat tomorrow or defend my life with today.
Maybe I just bought it to shoot and enjoy... hmm?
