Question: I definitely don't want to come across as supporting new restrictions; but, hasn't the recent "illegal" executive action actually made it easier to purchase suppressors by removing the need to get CLEO's prior approval? CLEOs who wouldn't approve purchase/ownership was the main reason to get a trust. So, unless you have a group of people that want to have joint ownership/access/storage of a suppressor allowed by a trust, an individual can now buy NFA items without a trust and therefore save the expense of setting up a trust. Or am I missing something?

For an individual, it's a good thing. But only that person can have access to the NFA item and a trust allows for beneficiaries. A trust is still a better way to go IMO.

If you did not want to get a trust or a corp for whatever reason, and if your sheriff is a bit of a dick and won't sign off, then yes it is better for you. For everyone else it is either the same or worse. The sign off is one of a number of reasons people choose to use a trust. My trust made things really very easy for me. No LEO paperwork, no fingerprints, photos, no other extra forms. I work for a living. Aint nobody got time for that. After the rule change it will be a pain in the ass for me personally. Probably won't stop me but significantly less convenient now.

That being said, I think it was a reasonably fair trade off. It at least made the rules consistent and hopefully will have the effect of adding many people to the ranks of NFA owners. The more people that get into this area the better IMHO. More popularity means less change of it being regulated out of existence.
