Every where you look it's there...In every form of entertainment it's their, on tv, at the kids sporting events, the selfish parents are fighting because their little man or little princess got a bit ruffed up because of playing a bit to aggresive !!! We as parents have gotten to aggresive to the point of ruling out sportsman like conduct....Play to kill, play to hurt, play to mame.....ahhhh bullcrap !!!! Ever wonder why violence in society never gets addressed like drugs, or like sex Pull the kids off the field, let them take a brake if they're getting to aggressive....where's the coach in this, where's his discretion, he's the damn coach. Where's our discretion as society, we all have a say don't we ? Dont take me wrong, I teach my kids to be aggressive in everything they do in life, but the difference is I teach them respect first, RESPECT !!!! Opinions ???? thanks.

We really don't run into it much in my family. I got rid of cable TV a couple years back, and the only things we watch now are things I've checked out and approved. Even that only happens for about an hour each week - on the weekends. No videos during the week ever. My little girl (4 years old) has very nice respectful friends, and we're beggaring ourselves to keep her in a nice school and a quiet neighborhood where the neighborhood kids play together outside, and all the parents watch them.

I know eventually she'll encounter evil influences. That's why at this early stage in her life I want to be sure all the influences are positive.

Not really sure what you're trying to say in your post but if you think this is new behavior then you must have never studied history.

The human race is a violent one. It always has been. The only difference now is with television and the internet we can see just how violent we are 24/7.

Think of chores like on a farm, people worked to produce the food they eat. Well today kids vegetate in front the TVs, computers with viloent videos glorifing & showing all sorts of violence from fighting, to criminal activities with all types of weapons. The VIDEO GAMES are the worst where kids just sit back and pull the switch, as it were a trigger on a weapon, bombs and what have you...these secessions of fixactions last for hours with no end in sight, day after day! To some it is more addictive than porn! In stead of them just sitting home mastrubating, they go out and act out to commit as sort of atrocities, property destruction, personal attacks, crimes.

Oh. let's not forget about the ZOMBIE apocalypse, the end of the world apocalypse, doom and gloom of the earth's destruction apocalypse, tsunnmi, astroid, solar flares, super volcanoes or nuclear attacks which could happen at the bat of a eye, what makes people's future so short and life not worth living!

We don't see the Government Gone Wild attacking the Video industry for their part in producing psychologicly damaging materials...No! They continuely blame the guns and only guns and everything is an asault weapon!

Government is too worried about where is the next dollar they can steal form hard working TAX PAYERS to waste on their self serving selves!, Instead of allowing business to flurish in this country, to be able to put everyone to work so they can provide a better life for themselves. But people in general have become acustom to hand outs instead of trying to earn a living and provide for their own well being! The current SOCIALIST President is re-elected by these same people beliving in the BS of a continuous flow of FREE STUFF.

Here is another thing, the news media doesn't mention the reasons behind what led up to the these shootings because these things take time to investigate and by then the sensationalism of the incident is over and gone and it becomes back page news if it is even reported at all!

I could make a long list of things that I think contribute to violence these days. 40 year adult men acting like 10 year old children (no strong male role model). Parents dropping their child off every day for somebody else to raise so both parents can have careers (excluding those to truly have to work just to afford the essentials (a 40K SUV/Truck and 2500 sq. ft. house doesn't count)). Video games and television that show graphic violence, and parents who allow their impressionable children access to them. A broken school system. The general moral decay of our entire society. The list goes on and on.

But there will always be violence among us humans. It is in our nature to kill each other as evident by the countless millions that have died at the hands of other humans over the course of history. We don't just kill for self preservation or self defense. We kill for greed, fun, or sometimes for no reason at all. And not just other humans, we pretty much kill anything. Those who hunt know what I am talking about. I know people who shot animals just because they didn't see anything else. Not to eat it. Just because it was there, alive, moving, and within range.

Do you not know how much violence humanity has created in the name of God? What do you think the war in the middle east is about? Are you saying there was no violence when prayer was allowed in school?

I don't see anything at all that points to a lack of "God" being a problem. The deadliest American school mass murder happened quite a while before the great debacle over religion in school, anyway, which this latest is what I presume spurred this thread.

I strongly disagree with all of the above. While I respect your opinions, and this is definitely in the realm of opinion, I can't agree one bit (even though I acknowledge that it's just as much your right to say and believe it as it is mine to disagree and not). An alleged being that supposedly murdered every first-born male child in their cradles of an entire people to prove a point to their leader is not the only path to moral righteousness. It just isn't so.

I don't agree with alot of this. Society is relevant to time/period/era. People in 1930 didn't not kill each other just because they didn't have Call of Duty. And Ed Gein lived on a farm and in a heavily influenced church community.

Your kids and your grand kids may say the same thing as you are now, but it will be relevant to what they have in their current time/period/era.

Blame is not something easily exacted on target. Now, if I had to pick a cultural phenomenon that I believed heavily influences our lives negatively, I would say social networks; by keepiing us from actually talking to one another face to face. We are robotic in our writing now-a-days. There is less and less interaction that has meaning anymore. Humans need that.

The biggest single reason for the degeneration of our society is the lack of education. We are becoming less intelligent as a country and as a whole. If you look at a cross section of American society honestly, you will see those that are more likely to hurt others are less intelligent.

I am certain the news that finally arrived days later to the non-combatants after Antietam was equally as shocking as these current tradgedies. Instant shock value and reflection is the theme of today's digital world.

Our human minds, may not be ready to fully embrace it; yet! But we will.

I think the media is sensationalizing murder these days. And with that happening, the people who are easlity led by the media will likelt find the depicted behavior to be more "acceptable", if only on a subconscious level.

Kinda like decoming desensitized to violence after watching alot of action movies, etc.

Plus we have all of the current socio-economic concerns that a weighing on people. I would say that the current population is very stressed, as a whole. Job uncertainty, failing investments, the loom of medical insurance issues, etc are all prevalent these days. Alot of poeple are near their breaking point with everything they have to handle.

We will have wackos doing stupid stuff. That is a guarantee.

So my advice is stay out of large groups of people, especially schools and movie theaters. Carry a shotgun slung across your back, and never go out in public without at least 10 other gun toting friends. Gang mentality is the only way to stay safe these days.
