Got AVG now, it's been 100 % but I paid 60 bucks for a year, soon's that is up I'm going to the MS free.

Had Nortons before, no problem with it except it didn't get along well with Windows live mail.

The macintosh evangelists will tell you that mac is superior right after the Linux zealots burn your home to the ground for not believing in their God.

Eventually, we all have to come back to reality. Here, in reality, where no one really gives enough of a **** to hack apple (they figure wearing a fedora and dressing like a hipster or being an unemployed liberal arts major is punishment enough) we have to employ a little more common sense than extreme fanboy ranting to solve our problems.

For years, I was a norton guy. I fixed PC's and swore by it. Then one day a forum I visited got hacked. I was sent an email that basically gave a link to the new forum. Well, it was a hack too. The virus actually shut off norton and then browser hijacked my computer. I was furious.

Went to AVG for 3 years. Loved it. You notice an immediate difference in PC performance once you get Norton off your system.

Then I found out that Microsoft made their own. Our company's network guy switched us all over to it and I was impressed. He spoke highly about the lack of resources it takes, along with the praise it was getting across the internet. So I switched.

    I do not regret it.

The two I use are Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot Search & Destroy. Spybot leaves a little thing running called teatimer and it blocks known bad processes so viruses can't even get in to be quarantined. Spybot doesn't auto update though, so you have to manually do it every month or so.

Avast on my desktop, and Symantec Endpoint on my laptop (thanks, LSU). Also, I have NoScript on my web browser just to be safe.

The main thing is staying off porno sites, not downloading any torrents, and not clicking on random links. Haven't had to deal with a virus in a while.

ESET Nod 32/Smart Security I like that and Kaspersky because they aren't resource hogs like Norton. ESET it is on the same level of protection as Norton if not a tad bit better in some respects.

I have avast on nearly everything I touch (also running free spyware, firewall, malware, etc). I ran an update on my main use laptop for avast last night and I think I turned it off before it finished...installed AVG today and back in business.

I've never had a virus issue between those two
