I need some help identifying what type of hornet or yellow jacket this is? I've killed 3 or 4 in the past few days and can't find the source. In the picture it is next to a red wasp, and is a lot larger. When they fly around they look orange?

Put something by them for a size reference. I read about a new "killer" hornet that is two inches long.

Definitely not a cicada killer or paper wasp. I'm about 99 percent sure it's a yellow jacket. It has a pinched waist and distinct yellow and black markings. They are out looking for food and will go to anything sweet and even meat sometimes. There nest are very distinct. They look like paper and are grayish brown in color. They nest in all kinds of places such as wall voids, attics, log piles and just about any place that they like. They can be very aggressive when disturbed. I've remove some huge nest from mobile homes and wall voids of regular homes. If you sit back and observe them you may find out wher they are nesting. Be careful.

There is a house that is abandoned that is 2 houses away from me. In the shop it's full of old lumber from floor to ceiling, my wife thinks they could be living there. I haven't seen any since my first post.
