A co-worker just asked me where one could go to buy a collectible knife for her husband for Christmas. She's not looking for any particular model, but something along the lines of remington, etc that apparently come in tins.

I've never bought knives for their collector's value; more for their utility. What local stores should I recommend to her? Bass Pro?

Thanks for any help and insight.

Give KnifeWorks in Columbia a call 888-225-9775/www.knifeworks.com

Tell them what you want and ask for recommendations.

I've had great service from them and really good prices.

Like TomTerrific said, knifeworks has just about everything you could want. But if you are really looking for collectables that will appreciate in value, try A.G. Russell. In particular, look at their "Knife Collector" section. Doubt you'll be able to get anything from either before Christmas, but possibly a gift certificate obtained online, or order now and print out a picture for a gift package, pending the arrival of the real thing.

The best collectible knives are custom made by a known maker. They will hold their value. Production knives are made in the millions and with the exception of some Case models, prob wil never be worth much.
