We have a redbone coon hound that comes from one of the winningest coon hunting dogs ever. All her litter mates have become champions but ours loves to hunt squirrel. We got her cause my oldest son wanted to coon hunt but that didn’t pan out. Hunting is in her blood though and every time we let her out she would go crazy over the squirrel. She trees them well and will hunt as long as you will let her in the yard. Yesterday my 7 year old and her trees one in the woods by the house and he shot the squirrel. She loved it so much. So, now we will be using this spring season to see if we can actually hunt squirrel with her. So far so good. She seems to tree well using sight and smell. Just needs work on letting them go when in her mouth.
I’d rather squirrel hunt than coon hunt anyways.

Here is some photos of Dixie doing her thing.
Not sure why two are sideways. I saved them and turned them again but they still show up sideways.

Stayed out long enough to get one before the black flies ran me out, tried 3 different sprays and nothing worked.
    What works?

Don't sweat it! I only shot 1 on Saturday, and saw only 2, and not until 9:00. Picture perfect morning too! Shot 3 on Sunday, lost 2 in the water; only saw 4; also later. Another perfect morning. I never got skunked like that where I hunt. There are literally and factually dozens of squirrels per acre on my place. Hundreds, and hundreds in total.

Now, there were squirrels running all over my yard all day. I can't explain it either!

    That's great!

I hunted squirrels with dogs for the first time a few years back. It was a kick in the ass! We killed dozens!

Getting ready to do it better than ever, myself. Just bought over $1100 worth of Sitka hunting clothing and a pair of Danner snake boots to upgrade my old gear.
'Tis the Season to be Jolly!
    Merry Christmas to me! LOL

My brother raises flying squirrels and grey squirrels that people bring him. He has several big walk in cages that he keeps them in outside and once they are old enough he releases them or gives them to other people who do the same. He has several gray and flying squirrels that come visit him every day when he gets home from work. I prefer the larger 4 legged animal friends myself. And yes I know now that was incredibly stupid.
