If most voters would just be honest with themselves we would start electing Libertarians but until then I see no other choice.

I have realized my Libertarian beliefs much in the last few years. I was a strict Republican from age 16 until 44 or so.
I would never have fathomed that I would want to legalize pot, and not go liberate some backwards ragheads from the
child abusing rapist they call spiritual leaders.
I have building contempt for Republicans. Most of them are scared to stand up for what is right, regardless of the consequences. I know that sounds self defeating, but that is the standard that I have come to expect from a representative.

If you vote republican because the fella in the suit has a R next to his name, you're a dimwitted jackass and you're ruining my country.

If you vote democrat (...well, for any reason, heh)- the same applies.

If you aren't voting on the issues, and you can't specifically state what your elected officials opinion is on any given subject before you cast a vote, then you're just a moron yanking a lever hoping for a jackpot.

If you aren't exercising your right to vote- then you are forfeiting your greatest right and have absolutely no merit to bitch or complain.

ok, im off to get coffee. brb

    in answer to thread topic:

    I vote republican because

    1) I feel like to be commander in chief you should have military experience, even if you weren't active duty. There are traditions and core beliefs that you can't get from watching a blackhawk down marathon. If you have zero military experience, you're working awful hard to get my vote.

    2) I, like my father, grew up in a less than middle income household. I went to college, started a business, and now provide for my family better than I had it as a child. You have the same opportunities anyone else does. if you disagree, you're either (for the most part...) a criminal/lazy/stupid/ignorant/not talented. If your only hope in life is to live off others, you're either (for the most part...) lazy/weak/ignorant/not talented... and if you think its my job to provide for you, you're at least a tri-fecta of those qualities. Any jackass that lobbies to take a larger % of my earnings to give it to anyone else is going to have to work awful hard to get my vote.

    3) I believe in religion. This country was founded on a religion and formed by those fleeing religious persecution. I don't care if you designate a time in public schools for muslim kids to pray in the yard... just don't tell my child she can't say a personal prayer or wear a cross necklace. If you disagree with me, you are going to work awful hard to get my vote.

    4) I believe in doing whats right, but I (like my concealed carry mentality) am not a police officer. If you advocate sending my family and friends overseas without a declaration of war OR If you are sending funds, food, or aid to countries that burn my flag you're going to work awful hard to get my vote.

    5) I believe in guns, 2a, and the patriots that fought and died for my right to defend my family. If you advocate restricting firearms in any way, shape, or form, you're going to work awful hard to get my vote.

    6) I don't vote for you because of the letter next to your name. I'm just as inclined to vote for myself as I am for you. You are going to have to work awful hard for my vote.

Based on these beliefs, I've voted Republican in every election because the democrat didn't have the qualities I prefer and didn't agree with me on this brief and nonconclusive list of personal beliefs. It's not to say that the Republican batted 100% either, he was just the lesser of two ****ing political evils.

    Very well stated!
