First, THis is NOT 4x4 is it ?
What are you trying to accomplish or remedy ?
Where do you do the most driving.
IN town or on the interstate.
How fast do you cruise on the interstate?
What is your engine RPM at your interstate cruising speed
    Do you tow?

Yes a 4.8l needs all the help it can get, However, Good custom engine & especially transmission tuning can work wonders even without a gear swap.

IF you raise your cruising RPM, you might feel like you get there quicker, but you will burn more fuel.
[ and yes that is a loaded statement, there are MANY Variables ]
If a good tranny tune is done, you will accomplish near the same results.

Last, How many miles do you have ?
When was the last time someone REALLY checked your engine/tranny adaptive strategy to see if there is a problem that you dont know about?

4.11s will do pretty good. It will get you back to stock ratio pretty much, if your looking for performance go with a little lower gear,or if you pull loads
I run 4.11s in my truck with 29in tires,I assume you have 3.42s,a 3.73 isnt worth the swap.Go straight to 4.10s
    Im @ 2500-26rpm @ 65mph please note your tires are 4in larger
Your mpg will pick up in city, and really wont drop much on the highway. Most people people think 4.10s are too much when they are not.
Cant really tell you to much from my situation as my trucks on the ground with a cammed lq9, yankSS3600 and 4.10s
    Do it!

IM pretty busy, but Ill answer you later today or tomorrow.
I need to know year, make model, engine and differential ring gear size. how many miles
and do you have access to programming for the gear ratio change, or are you gonna need that too.

My buddy loves that kind of stuff. He's the leading seller of Jasper engines and trannys in the BR area. :D

Good luck I hope it works for you.

    Gm half ton
    99- current
    10bolt 8.5/8.6 rearend
I would suggest a Eaton Tru Trac if you have the money, very nice and always lock
Go with a gear of choice but you cant beat GM 4.11s

    What you need
Locker if you can afford. P.S G80s are grenades!
    Gears
    Master install kit

Order from Rons Machine Service, hes a vendor on PerformanceTrucks.net
He has a website, quick google search
Call to order, tell him your a member
He will set you up perfect and save you money.

Not sure why everyone de grades the 4.8s.
They are strong little motor and get out of there own way easily
In stock form the 5.3 has a bit more torque. No where near a reason for a motor swap

Same blocks, same bore, different stroke. .40 difference in stroke here.
Best way to gain Lowend is gears and compression

He puts the 4.10s and will need a tune, from Thunder,EPS,or Futral
Just those 2 mods will put you well over a stock 5.3 in this situation

If you want to find you a motor and swap in,look for a ls2 6.0,lq4 6.0, or lq9 6.0. These 3 are most common, direct swap.
    Dont mess with a 5.3......

Lq4s are most common as they are in 3/4ton gassers on the road, and everywhere
