Putting this in the forums I frequent.

falseebay.jpgOk the short and dirty of it is this: you pick up a virus somewhere named pup.bundleinstaller.vg. Malwarebytes will catch it if you scan but it's already installed and has done its damage. Luckily it's not too hard to fix once you know where to look. See my attachment. Those are NOT a part of ebay, and they cause a popup that you can only see sometimes, but you'll always hear a woman talking about "move over ebay, there's a new auction in town"... Pretty brazen to hack their site, advertise on it, then tell them to get out of the way! Anyway, if this happens to anyone here, the fix is:

    1. Scan your pc with malwarebytes. download, install, and scan your computer with this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/down...s-anti-malware

    2. It should find pup.bundleinstaller.VG. It's a brand new virus, if you google it there isn't much info. Hit the "remove infection" button on malwarebytes. Ok, it's gone, but it still has a helper in your browser that will try to bring it back.

    3. Go to your browser's options/tools/addons. Look for a toolbar called "Iobit" or "Iminent", those are the only 2 I know of but if you see ANY toolbar you didn't install(no one should use toolbars/searchboxes anymore anyway, they're almost all spam and add no value compared to just googling it yourself), delete it with utmost prejudice.

    4. Run malwarebytes again just to be safe, make sure it's gone.

    5. I also ran combofix, but I don't think that step was necessary now that I know where that virus was.

    I hate thieves.

If your using IE.There's your problem. If you use wins 7 enterprise and mozilla firefox..
You will never have these issues. Both do not allow pop ups.I have seen that file before
it is not new.Ebay has lots of attachments to ads.Just upgrade to wins 7 and firefox.
Also add a FW proggy to block plugin container. That is the biggest culprit to date !!!

So MS Esentials will work with Firefox as well ??

MS Essentials doesn't care which browser you use.

I've been on Firefox since its inception and rarely have issues. However a lot of that has to do with knowing where to not go or what not to click.

Plus, I always wear a condom when I'm web surfing.

I don't go to porn, too frustrating on the old people.

I am seriously boring in browsing history...I might try Firefox.

I'm wondering still if the OP had Real Time running when he got his bug. I know some people leave RT off and jsut scan at intervals, I ain't that brave.

    Thanxz

Firefox is good stuff. Keeps crap off of your computer that's for sure. Works fine with security essentials.

I've tried chrome (it's a little faster), but haven't found any reason to make a permanent switch.

Hey just getting back to the thread, sorry for the delay. Admittedly, I hadn't heard of a real time scan before? How, I have no clue being an IT guy, guess that makes me look pretty bad lol. As long as the boss stays fooled that's all that matters haha. Ok so I looked at my AVG after your post, Yrdawg, and by default the realtime scan is NOT activated(it is now) - thanks for teaching this old(to IT) dog a new trick. Therefore, you have a bit more defense than i did, and although I was too dumb to protect myself from it, I do see now that something that scanned links would have had a shot at stopping this situation.

Slowhand, IE is my mortal enemy, and I cringe every time I have to use it at work. I'm a 100% Chrome user at home, and that's the first browser that got infected.

Chrome is even more simple than IE, if you like a minimal, clean browser, Chrome could be for you... you know how when you go to Tools/Options in IE, it opens up a window with all kinds of crazy stuff, tabs and buttons everywhere? Trusted Zones this, Custom level that, connections, content, publisher???? How can anyone find anything in there? With Chrome, you just hit the wrench. One dropdown menu, some will lead you to new windows, but to me it's a much simpler interface. Also; Chrome plays everything. I never have to worry about the little puzzle pieces of death for a broken link, or just any other general BS reason why I can't surf the web like it should be.

So if I put Firefox on I'd prolly need to uninstall IE ??

No. You could put on another browser, and have it sitting on your desktop alongside ol' trusty. I have Chrome, IE, and Firefox on my PC. Why? Just because..... I use Chrome 99% of the time.

Ok...well I think I'll give something else a spin, faster is better.

I had AVG paid with the extra cleaners and stuff, took that off when it expired and put on MSE, I think MSE lets me go a little faster.

Nortons b4 that...somebody needs to tell Nortons it's dead.
