What kind of rifle do want to use and what do you want it to do. One of the big WSM will work when put in the right gun, as in one accurate enough. And then again, can YOU shoot that far. There is also the cost for the gun, how much can you afford?

There's no such thing as "knock down" power. In order for a projectile to knock down your target, the propellant has to knock you down. Basic laws of physics.
Any gun that could knock down an animal the size of a deer would have to be fired from a very heavy duty mount. If you fired it from the shoulder it would knock you down too.

.45ACP. Knock'em down since The Morro Rebellion in the Phillipines. Even though the Rebellion was 14 years before the advent of the .45. Now thats some badass knock down power.

And even then there's maybe 5 or less people on this site who can shoot that distance accurately enough to hunt ethically.

I think there are more than 5. I can think of 5 without even using any of the F Class shooters or anyone who doesn't shoot competition.

And then of course there is LongRange/Plinky

    Gonna haveto go with less.

At 1,000 I kept it within 3.5 MOA with my Barrett, I remember I opened up a good bit between 800 and 900 (MUCH harder)
Now, there's MANY people who are MUCH better shots than I.

But most hunters don't hunt with a 1MOA rifle.

So if we say 2MOA gun/ammo combo we're talking 16-18 inch grouping (Or area for one shot)

That's with NO varriation from the shooter, no matter the position.

    We have tiny Deer.

    I don't call that ethical.

Dear sized animal, clean kill, 900 yards, you lose a toe if they miss.

There's that many you'd trust to make the shot in any given condition(s)?

Of course there's LR. He's one of the five.

Thats a tough shot. There is a reason there aren't more "Greatest, Farthest Sniper Shots EVER!" And it's because once you get out past 500M you may make the shot, but, JDAM makes it 100% of the time so you let him shoot.
