No, but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to do smoothly when trying to stay out of the video, hold the weapon in front of your cell-phone which is propped up against a book on your countertop, and all that crap.

Try it again at full speed and let us know what happens.

The 30 rounders should be no issue. I cycled through about 20 or so of them in the VTAC class with no problems.

The only 20 round mags I have are some CProducts that were bought several years ago. Those only get used when shooting from a bench and only get about 5 rounds at a time.

Did fine at full speed, and I closed the bolt on the loaded 30's and it did fine. Apparently after over half a century, 20 round magazines are still "a problem" with this platform.

    Good.

I use PMAGS (20 and 30 rounders) and Colt 20 round mags without any issues. I'm not saying they won't ever act up, I'm just saying I haven't had any problems.

I picked up 4 L5 AWM mags last week. I like the fit and finish of them and the feed ramps seem to be more durable than the PMAG plastic ramps. One thing I have noticed is that it takes a bit more pressure to seat the mag. I have not put any range time on them so I will report back once I do.

Roommate too, or you flying solo? :squint:

No roommate's. Always wore at least boxers back in my college days when I was out of my room. I don't want to see some naked guy, so I didn't see fit to force that one my roommates, either. There were those uncomfortable moments hiding behind the refrigerator door, etc. when they came home unsuspected though, lol

Re-visiting this, I think I am going to go through with transitioning to PMAG's. The two failures I had in Viking Tactics 1.5 were magazine related. The first was 100% magazine, the 2nd was me riding the CH + magazine.

This week-end I also had two failure shooting suppressed. One, the magazine was 100% to blame when I dropped the bolt using the bolt-release button (re-load) and the friction between the bullet and feed-lip prevented feeding, and two, my roommate got a dead-trigger with a round in the chamber. Bolt did not fully seat. I think gunk from shooting suppressed plus sharp feed-lip digging into a round.

So I did some tests. I can drop the bolt manually from a LOT closer to the back of the round on the FIRST round in a PMAG than I can the THIRD round in a Lancer and still get it to strip and the bolt fully seat.

This may not matter when the weapon is clean and wet, but as it dries out and gets fouled, I think this will be a failure mechanism.

The PMAG users at Viking Tactics 1.5 did not have issues, although VG has stated that he HAS seen PMAG's fail physically. However, a mag that physically has failed and is a PMAG is easy to spot. If it has a crack/missing part, trash it. If not, rock on. It isn't likely to break IN the weapon when inserted in good health like the Lancer AWM's have proven to fail IN the weapon when inserted in good health.

Is it a big issue? No. I made it through VTAC 1.5 well. However, it's "one more little thing" that can improve the system, and since I have to buy mags anyway...why not?

There were a half dozen bad Pmags in that class. Hand cycling is a stupid way to verify function. I don't think you've shot enough to know anything about your mags yet ,but, it's your money.

Multiple failures using the bolt release on reloads. Hand cycling is stupid, but it proved that there was much less friction with the pmags. How did the pmags fail? I did not see them.

Bad follower, out of spec feed lips, broken spine. Hand Cycling proves nothing. What ammo was used in your failures? Was it open tipped?

JWG, make sure that fancy Noveske is compatible with the new M3 Pmags, I've read about some interference issues with the new overinsertion stop.

The only Lancers I've heard any issues with are the newer AWM translucent mags. And that's what you get for buying silly see through mags.

Personally I prefer the design and metal feed lips of the Lancer mags. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna test one before I trust it. And it doesn't mean I'm ditching the PMags I have either, they work great too.

What I wouldn't do is go all in with a new design PMag right when it hits the market.

They will take minor! Filing to fit the rifle I brought to class. 4800 serial and up noveske lowers were changed.

My awm mags are black opaque.

I'll tell ya a secret. No mag design is perfect. PMags can fail. Lancers can fail. I have lots of both, as well as GI mags. I've only had multiple failures with GI mags, and a couple failures with a PMag. I didn't run out and throw away my PMags or spend hours in the kitchen playing Mr. Wizard. I marked the mag as bad and relegated it to range duty.

My point is, it doesn't matter what brand you pick. Number em and shoot em. They'll either work or they won't.

What a waste of money and time to correct 2 failures in 2k+ rounds that you can't be sure of cause. But hey whatever blows your hair back...
