Did a search and didn't find a whole lot, so sorry if this is a dupe. I should get my new upper this week, and I will be breaking in the new build (upper, lower, BCG, CH, etc.). There are a host of different lubes on the market (see list below) and I am curious as to what most of you use (I'm sure that I have left some off).

CLP (only one that is MIL-SPEC and DOD approved AFAIK)
    Slip 2000
    Frog Lube
    TW25B
    M-Pro
    Hoppes
    Rem Oil
    Ballistol
    Lubri-Plate
    Slipstream
    Mobile One
    ???

In addition, how "wet" would you go for the first 100 rounds or so?

    Thanks

I've been using frog lube for several months now and it seems to work really good. It's real easy on the nose inside of the house too!

I use FP-10 and Slip2000 but I am planning on picking up some frog lube due to the lack of smell. I already switched to using Hoppes Elite cleaner due to the lack of smell.

Follow up questions - Where are good places to keep well oiled? Which places should be more dry? Should you use certain types of oil on certain guns or in certain places?

I use EWL, Hoppes and Remoil for cleaning and oiling. I think I am going to use frog lube after I run out of Hoppes because the smell is starting to get me.

Are y'all using synthetic Mobil oil or regular ole 20w-50

We are using synthetic and any quality synthetic motor oil is a great lubricant. Dextron ATF is a great lubricant as well. Three parts Mobil 1 20W50 and one part Dextron ATF is a great combination.

So I can go down to the auto parts store and just get good synthetic motor oil and it will work? Are there places you shouldn't use it? Certain guns? ARs too?

Every few hundred rounds I use Ed's Red. Remove grips, field strip, and soak.
    CONTENTS: Ed's Red Bore Cleaner

1 part Dexron II, IIe or III ATF, GM Spec. D-20265 or later.

    1 part Kerosene - deodorized, K1

1 part Aliphatic Mineral Spirits, Fed. Spec. TT-T-2981F, CAS
#64741-49-9, or may substitute "Stoddard Solvent", CAS #8052-41-3, or
    equivalent, (aka "Varsol")

    1 part Acetone, CAS #67-64-1.

(Optional up to 1 lb. of Lanolin, Anhydrous, USP per gallon, OK to
substitute Lanolin, Modified, Topical Lubricant, from the drug store)

    I use the lanolin.

Scrub with nylon brush, Wipe the parts down, run some patches through barrel, then oil very lightly with motor oil...I keep various small bottles of oil for the range...rem oil is fine for this.

This way I know some lube is always on the firearms by using the Ed's Red and protected from rust.

BCG's and mags get the Ed's Red once in a while, no extra lube on the mags. Just remember the Acetone can hurt some plastic parts, you don't need it in the mixture. Good for reloading dies, especially if not going to be used in a while.

    +1

And for rust control, I recommend using EEZOX.
