    It's a little on the early side but I rowed up my garden this afternoon. It's pretty small but I have 6 rows 16' long on 3' centers with about a 12" top.
    2 rows of tomatoes (at least 2 varieties)
    1 row of cucumbers
    1 row of carrots
    1 row of peppers (preferably pablanos)
    And another row open for debate.
    Any recommendations on variety would be much appreciated. I'd also like to try one heirloom tomato.

    What's yours gonna look like?

    I have been growing heirloom tomatoes for about 8 years and have grown out probably 20 to 25 varieties, but the Cherokee Purple has always been the reigning favorite. Although not an heirloom variety, Sun Gold is always a crowd pleaser. It's a very prolific, cherry tomato that we eat like candy right off the vine. If I could only plant two tomatoes in my garden, Cherokee Purple and Sun Gold would be the choice. Good luck with your garden.

    Late? Pffft. I planted a week ago. Not big though. I just got a 13' X 3' box. Usually put 12 tomatoes, and 18ish peppers of different types. The wife makes tomato sauce and I make pepper relish

    I experimented w/Heirloom Tomatoes and Eggplants(cant remember variety) and both were very hardy.

    This year I will be experimenting an Louisiana Local tobacco. If any has any tips, please do tell.

    Also,(not in the rowed garden)I will be growing Tea Trees from seeds.

    Brandywine and Rutgers are pretty good heirloom tomatoes. Mine are still indoors, up to 6-8 inches now, hopefully this will be the last cold spell of winter.

    Nobody growing red potatos? Keep some for seed potatos and cut them up into eyes and plant each year. Nothing better than fresh ones right out of the dirt.

    Still a bit early.

    I'd wait until the middle of March. That's still three months until the hottest part of summer.

    If planting must be done, I'd start with early spring greens that would otherwise turn bitter in the heat. Onions for fall harvest and so forth.

    Leave the tomatoes, peas and eggplant till later in the month.

    I will this year. Planning on doing it in a trough though. We don't have the right soil for carrots and I'm tentatively thinking about a trough with the right blend to harvest those as well.

    I do peas in summer. The deer don't get them then and they grow real fast.

    LOL Not exactly,,,but did loose several tomato plants and all of my bananna plants froze back again...Did save the Pomegranet trees I think though by covering them up????

    Also someone mentioned potatoes I did save those that sprouted also...I got A BUNCH of Burlap Sacks from an OUTSTANDING MEMBER here on BS last year and planted potatoes in sacks:}

    Going to let the grandkids dig potatoes out the sack if they produce...

    Oh well back to Naylor's again next weekend to replenish my dead veggie plants:}

    Im starting my first year with my garden, I planted a few blueberries and and couple of strawberries outside. All the rest of my tomatos and my bell peppers are growing inside. I do have a creole and cherry tomato that are doing really good that I planted in pots that I am running between inside/outside with the cold... I also have 3 Ghostpepper plants and some seeds being sent in soon.

    Did you grow Parikh tobacco. That is the only tobacco that I know of that is grown in Louisiana. I understand that thennicotine content is very high and it has a strong "taste" when smoked.
