    Damn shame.
I liked what he did for our soldiers.
Had a lot of respect for him.
    Brilliant comedian, and actor.
    He will be missed.

When you face depression alone, you eventually fall prey to it. Asking for help is difficult at best. Finding someone who can really help is just as hard.

Very talented man who had a great career; but what is it with the country's fascination with entertainers? I will never understand why they are so revered.

They have millions of dollars, and can't find a rehab that actually works? Look around. Maybe it's being out there and being part of that culture that makes you damaged beyond repair.

Sorry, no sympathy for cashing in your chips early from me.

    Actually he was broke.

Saw an interview a while back about why he started doing TV.
He said, "B/c I'm broke", that's what happens after a couple divorces."

Same here, but I won't deny the power of depression and addiction.
These depression pills, in the end, seem to make you kill yourself or turn psycho.

If he was broke, why did he still live in a multi-million dollar ocean side villa in a very extravagant neighborhood? Seems to me, if you are going to admit to the world you are struggling with addiction (which he did), you should also admit your ex-wives have taken you to the cleaners and downsize accordingly.

Was it the peer pressure of convincing yourself that you have money when you don't out there with those phony snobs? Living in fantasy world out there much? Still can't find compassion in there.

As for the depression? Hey, I know a lot of young guys that served this country and are suffering outside of phony fantasy world too. They can't seem to hold down a regular job, much less get T.V. work.

The pills? Yes! I believe that **** is killing people that are looking to them for salvation. We most assuredly over medicate in this country, and put way too much faith in these doctors and psychologists.

Lots of folks own homes and are broke.

There's a period there where you are trying to sale it
or hoping to turn a big dime.

Maybe this was where he was?

His TV show was cancelled after one season, his second to last movie was so bad it went to DVD after a few weeks and his last movie was finished but couldn't be sold and two other projects were put on hold.
He was downsizing, his Napa ranch was up for sale...35 million.

Life is hard sometimes but it's the only one you've got.

Maybe so. Mojo says above that it was for sale for $35 million. If that is true, then it had a perceived market value of $35 million. No equity? And so, no scumbag Hollywood banker would lend him 5 or 10 million? Did he buy a house and mortgage it for $35 million? If so, that's just stupid.

I am trying to see it your way, somehow; but it's not adding up.

Emperor, you are putting way too much thought. I don't think he was asking for compassion.

No! I'm not. I still don't understand why this society is hyper fixated on the self inflicted death of an entertainer. And I acknowledged that he was a great actor, comedian, and had a storied career. But how many of you are suffering from depression? How many of you have PTSD? What about stresses of being a LEO? Family member with cancer, debilitating disease?

Is this guy's death any more special because he made you laugh? No, it's because you are being told to care by it being pushed in your face on every media outlet. And people are buying into it. It is a microcosm of how detached from real world issues we are.

Look, I loved his work; but I will be more affected if a veteran on this forum offed himself because of PTSD or depression. If you really think about it, he's a selfish prick for leaving.

I don't think his death means any more to is than the death of a veteran on this forum. But when you grow up watching an entertainer throughout your life you from a sort of mental bond with them (lack of a better word?) so when that person is gone, especially in a manner such as this, it really hits home. He touched many people's lives through his acting and comic routines so it makes sense that people are sorry for his loss.

As a parallel, when Chris Kyle was killed I felt a pang of sadness, and since I read his book several months prior I felt that much more connected to him. Not because I knew him or he lived near me, but because I had a connection with him through his work.
