I will get this Glock when it comes out.

It will not replace my airweight j-frame.

The j-frame fills a niche for me that no auto will fit.

    Totally what he said!
There are many applications in my life were a j frame is the right call for my everyday needs. I too carry a single stack 9mm from time to time but for many reasons do revert back to the j frame. I will probably get a single stack 9mm Glock but my j frames will always find the majority of use. I don't wear big pants. Bianchi speedstrips fit perfectly in fitted jeans and slacks..... so do most single stack 9mm mags.

The Ruger LC9 has been in production since 2010... The XDs 9mm, the Walther PPS, the M&P 9 Shield, Sig Sauer P938, The Nano, all single stack 9mm's that compare to the size a 9mm Single Stack Glock would have to be. Glock definitely isn't the first... but I'm sure they've learned a lot from the mistakes of others over the years.

There are only a select few things in the world you can swear by when it comes down to protecting your LIFE or the lives of your family... a Glock is one of those things.

I'm not saying that any of the others are not... but just like with anything else some prefer, though not many would you'd stake your life on, we all have our favorites. Some just base that knowledge on an idea, looks, finances, popularity, or someone else's opinion... Others base it on fact.

They're definitely not the first, and not without reason, due diligence, or the ability to perfect it. They more than likely won't be the last. Will it have problems when it finally does come out? Don't they all? Regardless... everything they've rolled out is rock solid and reliable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a "Go Glock or get off my block" guy... I believe a firearm is a tool, not an accessory or fashion statement. I've had or used most of those listed above at one time or another, and I can say with confidence, I would definitely put my money (and my life) on a Glock product. Not just because it's a Glock... but ease of maintenance, abundance of parts, history, durability, functionality, proven, etc.

I may not purchase one of the first ones on the market... no matter how much testing is done, it never matches up to what every-day shooters will do to the weapon. Once any kinks are worked out, I will definitely be on the list to grab one.

And as stated above... I wish I still had my J-Frame... and may get another. It's a great grab-n-go pistol.

Assuming the 9mm version is the same as the 42 how does it compare to the shield?

    A couple of comparison pictures:

    Shield with extended magazine.

    Shield with flush fit magazine.

View of bottom of magazines lined up for flush fit magazine comparison.

    Difference in frame height.

Close up of difference in slide height.

    Difference in slide length.

    Overall slide comparison.

    The differences are noticeable.

not selling both my J frame airweights. and ive got all sorts of different types of subcompact 9mms including the shield, cm9, lc9, g26, p938, p290, m&p9c, xd9sc, etc. but i find myself carrying my j frame airweight more bcz it just feels right..(?) if i knew i was heading into a danger zone, then of course id carry my glock 19 or something with a high capacity, but for everyday carry and ventures, the j frame fills the niche very well. ive got the glock 42 as well, i love the feel of it. if a 9mm version comes out in single stack, i'll likely jump on it.

I am happy with my G32, HK P2000K, and Mod 60 .357 as carry guns. I might buy the new Glock for the hell of it though.

I carry a j frame 98% of the time with a pps the other 2. My wife has a shield which I really like the feel of almost to the point of switching to, but I'm going to stick with my setup. That said, my brother has a single stack Glock 45 that I've coveted for a long time so I may try out the single stack 9. Other than that 45 though I've never been a fan of Glock. They don't feel right in my hand for some reason.

The 26 is a great BUG. A single stack 9mm would be a great "I don't even feel like putting on a belt today" gun. I'm holding off on buying a suppressor in hopes that Glock releases this in the next couple of months.

No doubt this will appeal to certain shooters, particularly for an identical manual of arms (subject to remarkable dimensional differences) and brand loyalty, but I don't see it offering anything remarkable over the competition to justify its creation... not that "justification" is a requirement for releasing a competing pistol or a profitable product.

If it isn't shield-sized or smaller however, the design deserves to fail on the market, IMO.

Before you put your hard earned money on a Glock, check out the Ruger LC9s. I believe Ruger got this one right. The trigger is far superior to the Glock. It has an external safety for those that want one and the sights are good for a small gun. It deserves a good look.
