Israeli official: Legally armed civilians have 'part to play' in wake of violence

If you legally own a gun, then carry it!

That's the message from Israeli police and government officials in the wake of a surge of violence there, much of it involving attackers, often Palestinians, armed with knives.

"The responsible civilian population -- in the framework of the rule of law -- has a part to play," Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev said Thursday morning. "We've urged Israelis to be vigilant. ... Having the civilian population work closely with law enforcement is one of the keys in defeating this threat."

Our government is just missing the mark. Granted, we're not under the constant threat of being wiped out... or hell, maybe we are, who knows? Anything geared at keeping firearms away from specific areas just advertises to criminals "We're weak and vulnerable over here!"

These idiotic business owners placing "No Firearms Allowed" signs in their windows don't even realize that they might as well just hang a "WELCOME CRIMINALS... EVERYDAY SPECIALS INSIDE!" sign.

If they had the Liberal news media there that we have here. They would run stories about the gentel giant arab that just turned his life around and was walking home from mausk when sone crazy "white jew" gunned him down for walking in the wrong neighborhood.
But first they will need to elect a muslim president so he could say "If I had a son he would look just like Aabzaari"

Spent some time in Israel a few years ago and trust me at least 90% are always armed.

I was there in 1990 (Haifa)... everyone walked around with rifles strapped to their shoulder like it was a fashion statement. I mean EVERYONE had some sort of weapon... I was surprised not to see little kids with their own! Then again, when your becoming an adult in Israel includes spending a stint in the IDF as a mandatory thing... I guess they're all familiar and trained on the use of several weapons readily available.

They better be careful! That EVIL rifle could just start shooting people for no reason whatsoever! They should probably ban them just to be safe!

Not sure about the mag requirement. Generally the young folks walking around with M16/M4 type rifles are doing their mandatory service in the IDF. They all hang out off duty in civvies and make M16 teepees next to their table as they eat dinner. It is awesome.

Are they required to carry with the mag removed?
I wish them all the luck. They are faced with way too many attacks on themselves everyday. I hope the next president can renew our relations with them.

Yes, the mag must be removed. I thought it rare to actually see a mag on the rifle carrier.

The best pics are the beach going ladies who must still carry their rifle.

Doesn't change the fact that Israel has very strict gun control laws. Some members here seem to think that everyone is armed there.

Private gun ownership is strictly regulated

Lets not forget that 7.8% of their popolulation is military of paramilitaty compaired to our 0.69% here in the us. Then if you add in retired IDF to that figure, roughly 1 in 5 are automatically eligiable or required to carry.

2014 was the all time high for US concealed carry permits and that is only 5.2% of the population thats nearly 5 times what it was for Y2K.

And I dont know this for sure but I would bet a ham sandwich that gun free zones are almost non-existant.

Well they don't want everyone who lives there to carry a firearm ;)

Our own gun permitting laws are very similar in their racial and economic undertones.

When race and socieo-economics come up my ear perk up a little. Could you explain ? Seems you mean to say my skin and bank account effect my rights to bare arms. Maybe I misunderstood? :dunno:
