I'm not opening the original thread back up, but I took the liberty of creating a new thread so you people can continue your petty argument / discussion. I'd love to see some actual research come out of this supporting each side's opinion.

As for my opinion, a nice heavy fleece jacket works quite well when you're sitting inside on a computer all day. Nice blue slacks with some badass brown kicks and I am good to go!

Regarding a concealed plate carrier for a civilian in non-hostile environments?

Yes. I mean aside from being hot and bulky, whats a legitimate reason for the dude to not wear it if he feels he should...or if he just wants to?

Ok are we asking why they won't wear or why they won't try to conceal it.

    I think you underestimate discomfort.

Aside from being hot and bulky, AR500 plates are heavy.

    if he feels he should...

He might want to whip his pecker out in public too, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.

or if he just wants to?

Unacceptable answer. Doing something because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Rather than discussing the pros and cons of AR500 armor, let's discuss the ideology behind a civilian concealing armor (in general) who works in a non-hostile environment. Paranoia perhaps?

Perhaps, but ultimately if he is willing to be discomforted enough to wear it, more power to him. I mean, I don't particularly having to wear clothes that can adequately conceal a firearm, but I feel it's better than not. I don't carry a gun because I am paranoid, but rather because I try to be prepared for most situations that I could potentially ever be in. If there was a lightweight bullet resistant material that I could wear during the day, I would certainly consider it. But currently, the pros do not outweigh the cons for me. Now if he wants to, I guess the pros, in his opinion, outweigh the cons.

I'm still of the opinion that if he feels the need to don the plates going into a certain area go for it. Who are we to judge what gives him peace of mind... But, I don't necessarily understand the thought behind it unless he's had a gun pulled on him before.

That's basically what I am getting at. I have had a gun pulled on me, and the pros still do not outweigh the cons. I feel like I would be entirely too immobile with a heavy, awkward rig on my chest. And further, those plate carriers are basically as big as me. I couldn't fit one under any of my shirts, jackets, or anything lol.

I'm trying to keep the discussion towards plate carriers in general. I'm unsure how many of you have actually seen/used a plate carrier before, but the AR500 carrier that he has is not small in the least bit. As far as PC's go, it is on the larger side of the spectrum.

I think we all agree that concealment went out the window. I know what cops look like in them and there is no hiding it, even with thick jackets. I would definitely feel awkward walking into an office with one on. Maybe he's a pimp sleeping with all the secretaries and is worried about husbands tracking him down...

I'm not familiar that specific plate carrier, but I would love to see ANY carrier that is honestly concealable.

Although I'm sure you're speaking of LEO in actual PC's, the majority of LEO you see will be wearing soft armor under their uniform, which is bulky enough as it is.

The plate carrier in question is an AR500 Armor XL (I'm assuming without any pouches or attachments):

Sure. I don't see how its concealable, but if he can do it and wants to, why not?
