    I'm back.

I gained some weight back and it sucks. I've been running the past few days and it's rough. 10 minute miles aren't cool. Anyway, I'm on a strict diet and hopefully this will get me back into better shape than I was before.

You too eh? I am so out of shape right now. Haven't worked out in two weeks :/

It's a team effort. Last time you helped motivate me...now we can motivate each other :]

I haven't been on much but have come across this thread. I'm glad I'm not the only ones running out of shape. I start March 2016. Best distance is 8.14 miles but I'm a slow runner. I see a lot of times under 10 minutes and wonder how to get faster. My first mile would be 8 mins but eventually would push out to 11-12 mins average. A little background- smoker for 16 years (quit two years ago). High cholesterol and triglycerides. Currently taking medicine for it and with running, I'm getting those down to where I may eventually get off medicine. I really wanna hit those 7 min miles though. I will incorporate interval training after my first 5k next week.

Thanks for all of the advice. Sorry to hijack your thread but you seem to be in better shape than me. I'm 36 years young and have never worked out/ran.

It's rough. I'm trying to get to the point where I can run 1.5 miles in under 12 minutes. I'm creeping up on 40 and I would like to closer to 200-225 than 250.

I was busting Austin's bubble by messing with him. This thread is here so we can all feed off of one another and keep us all motivated. Keep at it and you will get the results you're looking for.

Thanks. I am not giving up any time soon and although I would love to hit up a marathon, I know my body is not ready for it yet. I will try to do more sprints and shorter distances to see if I can't boost my speed.

Do you only run outside or do you ever run on a treadmill? I don't really like running at night due to the potential for a sprained / rolled ankle, and I have a treadmill at home...just don't really care for it... :/

I've been running on a treadmill, but I prefer running outside very early in the morning, like 0430ish.

Alright gents lets get this back going. Been running around 18-24 miles a week. Getting ready for the LA half marathon in January. Here's what I've got so far.

    5k- 22:07 could be faster
7.5- 1:01 (currently where I'm at) I'm faster than that
10.2 - 1:36 (ran last Friday to see if I was ready for 10) uncharted territory

Long runs (6+miles) I go for 8:30-9 min
Shorter runs I'm starting to push for under 7min

Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Good deal...keep it going, keep building up. Are you getting some tempo runs and long Fartlek in?
One of my athletes is gonna go run the half in Jan as well.
