I use the Short Barrel variation of the Gold Dot for every SD gun I have. And Sig Sauer V-Crown for the 10mm.

I used to run gold dot until I did a little research on frangible ammo now I use DRT 85gr terminal shock in 9mm and 150gr terminal shock in .45acp. I also use their ammo in my hunting rifles now too. The damage done by this ammo is insane compared to any traditional ammo I've ever seen.

I would not give up a proven round such as Gold Dot for an unproven round such as DRT.

Same here. I would not have an issue with carrying my handloads, but simply choose not to.

I don’t because I trust the factory ammo work every time with out a hiccup and if I (pray god it never happens) had to use my gun for the protection of my self and love ones I don’t want some lawyer to say I had ammo made to kill.

I've seen enough proof of its effectiveness through my hunting rifles and I've shot well over 1000 rds through my handguns and never had any issues with mis or hang fires, feed issues or fte. They shoot every bit as true as any other "proven" ammo I've ever shot and I've seen enough ballistic tests and load data that I feel confident that, God forbid I ever have to use it in a life or death situation, it will work very effectively. I'm not pushing it on anyone else. I know for a product of this nature you want something you can rely on. I'm just saying what I personally use and am confident in.

Would you care to share any of the proof with the rest of us so that we could also judge the ammo for ourselves? The proof is in the pudding, no proof, no pudding. I dont think many will rely on just hear say. Not saying it is not any good but, if there is no documented results, I dont see many shooters jumping ship any time soon!

Unfortunately I have no technical proof to share unless you'de like to see pictures of total devastation to some hogs shot with their 55gr .223. I've also seen 2 hogs shot from a moving airboat with a .40 with their ammo. 1 of which was gutshot and neither went very far. Don't have any pics of of the damage done by the higher calibers but I have taken several deer with their .308 and .300wsm ammo and I can tell you they all perform as advertised. As far as their defense ammo there's plenty of videos of ballistic gel tests on the web performed by non DRT personnel showing the product working as advertised. I've personally shot over chrono and confirmed velocities and personally seen the the expansion and energy transfer. The original post was asking what I personally carry. I'm not trying to sway anyone to or away from DRT. All I can tell you is that I'm confident in the performance. I've seen enough proof for myself. If you're interested enough buy some and test yourself if you not stick with what you know.

That is one very nasty .223 rem wound track in ballistics gel, DRT 55 gr.

Name ONE instance where that was used against a defendant. Just one.

Only one thing matters. Was it a Good Shoot?

If it's a good shoot, doesn't matter what you use. What can possibly be more deadly than deadly force?

I'll carry my handloads. I trust them more than factory ammunition. Nothing penetrates quite like a LSWC , and still expands. This only works well out of three or four inch barrels.

Generally though, you'll find factory ammo in my snubby. That's because they use powder configurations designed to burn in short barrels. This results in less flash at night, and higher velocities with similar pressures.

I just picked up a box of Hornady Critical Defense 165gr. I haven't had a chance to try them out and compare them to the Hydra-Shok 180gr yet, but I'm curious to see if the recoil is any less.
