Has anybody shot there? How is it? I noticed they don't allow reloads. Do they check to see what you're shooting? (;))

I've never shot there because they have a rule list a mile long. I generally hate ranges that treat gun owners like a bunch of babies who need training wheels.

I gotta get out of the heat :eek3:

It's not bad. I'm usually there once a month or so. I never really get messed with cause I know the guy that works the range on the weekends. I know they don't allow Monarch ammo, but I'm not sure about reloads since that doesn't concern me.

The range itself is nice. The people are strict, but hey I kinda don't blame them. It is expensive though, and for some strange reason it always ends up costing more than you think.

I usually drive to Shooter's Club instead, it's almost the same distance, and I like the atmosphere alot better.

What and where is Shooter's Club?

The range and shooting experience itself is nice. The store is fairly nice too, but that's where it ends. I had a long running thread about a complaint I had with the staff. Needless to say, between that and the counter being run ignorantly (i.e. my friend goes to buy an AK, and the staff goes irate and has to check with the manager/owner to see if someone under 21 can buy an assault rifle) I won't be back.

edit: Also, I will say I believe someone came across the thread several months after its creation and offered to make it right with me. So in their defense, I do remember them trying to correct the problem. However at that point I was no longer interested in the subject.

I haven't shot at Shooters club since it was Jefferson Indoor. Have they fixed the ventilation issues?

FITS is nice in hot weather- its air conditioned. I never had any problems but I remember the cost issues- and no it never added up right. I haven't shot there since just after Katrina (I used to live around the corner practically).

Since you live in Folsom, isn't there a range near Goodbee. I remember passing it up once. Tallow Creek maybe? I don't know anything about it though.

Nick's (in Garyville) is my home range now that the BZ is gone. Good people, nice range, decent prices.

I've enjoyed shooting at FITS and will continue going back. Good A/C in the hot weather, pretty good ventilation, lighting could be a bit brighter but it is plenty adequate. Cost is $11/hour/person... comparable to anyplace else around. The range is clean, the shop is stocked with lots of useful stuff. The folks who run it have treated me very well and with respect, so I give them my business, unlike another Louisiana indoor range which will never get another dime of my business.

No Monarch ammo as they've had some incidents with it in the past. No reloads. Their ballpark, their ground rules.

Yeah I have been to several ranges and by far are they the most expensive in my OPINION. Why dont you just make the extra 10 minute ride to honey island shooting range. 6 bucks all day if you leave and come back in the same day no charge and 1 dollar for 2 targets. open Fri, Sat and Sun.

Shooter's club is in Harahan. I've been recently and didn't notice any problems with ventilation after an hour and a half of shooting. Pretty nice place and nice staff (from my experience).

Nice thing is I can just about walk to it from my fiancee's apartment!

I bring my battery operated fan sometimes small and compact 7 bucks at walgreens does me just fine and i dont mind a little sweat. besides most indoor ranges dont let you shoot AR's and other types of firearms.

honey island lets you shoot just about anything. i had a talk with one of their range masters and he said it boiled down to If you can carry it on to the field by hand and it doesnt fire high explosive ammunition you can use it.

i have even heard that someone was allowed to shoot a 20mm cannon into the berm at the end of the field.

i do believe they don't like people shooting armor peircing ammo at their steel plates, it destroys them up too quickly

Aside from the heat issues already mentioned (and the cold isn't so great during those months, either), Honey Island isn't open during the week. Captain Obvious, I know-- but it's worth mentioning.

I've been going to FITS regularly for about a year now, and I've had nothing but positive experiences there. Their core staff are great people, and I'd consider them friends of mine. Not exactly sure how long ago the under 21 AK incident was, but that sounds very much out of character for them-- especially the "having a fit" part. Pretty laid back group, in my experience.

The facility itself is very nice, as is the adjacent shop. As far as costs never adding up, I've never honestly paid that much attention. Being so close, it's never really crossed my mind to go anywhere else. Call me crazy, but a couple of extra dollars for convenience and comfort is just something I'm willing to spend.

They are very much safety oriented, as their (apparently?) lengthy list of rules illustrates. However, if you're a competent shooter and can safely handle your firearms, there's no chance of any kind of hassle. There's also a decent sized group of regulars that frequent the store and range (myself included), and they're all good people with an impressive collection of firearms knowledge and experience.

Maybe you guys could get together and fix that low bridge that keeps the range closed for months (at least it seems like months) at a time.... Isn't that what SeaBees do construct stuff, so people can run in and shoot "stuff" up :D

I've been to FITS once and would probably not go back, just a bunch of little things that turned me off. I only remain proficient enough with my handguns to get to my rifles anyway.
