Politicians alway think more gov. is needed. The solution to this is simple, execute repeat offenders. Throw them off of the Mississippi River bridge in a public execution every 30 days until this crap stops. I say throw them off the bridge so that they will have plenty of time to think of what they have done before hitting the water.

nah, hang em off the bridge like they used to do in medieval times. So that all the other thugs can see the bodies every day and be reminded of the punishment for poor behavior.

If what the NOPD is doing is not working, why don't we try to fix that? Why don't we prosecute these criminals harder. Why are repeat offenders walking around free?
This just seems like more liberal propaganda. It is horrible when an innocent person is caught in the middle, especially a baby, but what would the nat'l guard have done differently to prevent this? It's not as bad here as everyone makes it out to be.

I have been saying for a long time ,our society has to have VISUAL constant reminders of what happens to offenders of our laws. To work it has to be within our laws not vigulante justice .Pubic hangings was a deterient to crime years ago.

It's no secret we have gone soft on crime.

If you look at a map of the murders in NOLA, they happen in a few very centralized areas. It wouldn't be hard to realign some extra manpower to those areas, but it seems to be quite the opposite. They seem to actually avoid those areas, and no one cares until kids get caught in the crossfire. Hopefully at least some good will come out of these tragedies, and NOPD will have to step up and face the problems they've been avoiding.

You're right, Curt... but if you saturate a trouble area with cops, the roaches will just move somewhere else. You have to KILL the roaches... and that is politically unacceptable.

    .

Thus letting the roaches kill each other. Every murder is one dead and one in jail off the streets. I do get all that. But it's a tactic that doesn't seem to be working, considering there seems to be an infinite supply of criminals. And just wait unti the next generation of welfare babies is old enough to get their own HiPernts. The same culture that is creating these thugs is being paid to breed. Eventually it will be a problem that can't be contained. Nevermind the roaches moving, it needs to be dealt with before they are EXPANDING.

And it's all fun and games until you start shooting kids. That's not tolerable to me.

It would have been better had the criminals stayed in states that could handle the crime problems post Katrina. Instead our local leaders insisted we reopen the projects and screamed discrimination until we brought the criminals back. Now the answer is to put 20 year old kids with no real police training and unloaded AR's on the streets of New Orleans?
NOPD is making arrests. We need to open tent cities and keep them in jail.

Just like we are always saying about 2A and gun rights/gun control, we don't need more laws. In this case we don't need the NG. The problem is the court system and the judges who create a revolving door for these multiple offenders. As for adding more copes to the streets, we all know that there are many agencies with man power that can be loaned to the NOPD for a "surge" in targeted areas. Use more Sheriff's deputies, Constables, Marshals from the city or parish, Dept of Corrections officers like is done during Mardi Gras (when I worked at E Hunt I knew guys from the prison k9/chase team who regularly rode with NOPD), use some of the regional task forces. When you bring in MPs from the Nat Guard, you are getting mostly people who are working as cops in other cities who serve in the Guard. You are activating the Guard and taking those offices from thier home jurisdictions leaving those agencies with less manpower. If you are going to pull officers from other cities, do it without activating the guard. Do like during Katrina, have cops from other towns in La rotate in to serve with NOPD. What I'm saying is, there's more you can do besides screaming "We need the Army to come in here". But whatever happens you have to get the judges to play along. Otherwise you are spinning your wheels.

My point is really that this Senator is just a tool. He has no jdea what he wants, no idea whats being done. Just send in the national guard and make it all better so I can get re elected. If he really wants to help he should ride his high white horse into the troubled area and camp out till he can make a profit on real estate there. And of course showing the thugs that LE , Elected's and the Mayor are not on the same page, always a smart move to show the enemy your camp is divided.

What the others said...sending Army in as CIvilian LE is not the answser. Even if the NG guy is a trained LE from another area... when he shoots Mr Thugabee inna ass he will be Amry, and the residents will be shoutin Amry brutality

I'm sorry that they elected Austin Badon as a Senator. He seems to lack the capacity for cognitive thinking..... Or his goal isn't for making NO better.

Sadly it seems that in todays world burning the barn to kill ALL the rats is unacceptable...unless your eric holder and the barn is called Waco

I'm bettin that if the stats were ever so slightly altered there'd be smoke and fire in the district today.

No one wants to deal with the fact that the causes of the problem are thorough corruption at all levels of all agencies of the city government and a culture of dependency and bad behavior.

Put the Marines on every block and let them take care of the creatures of the night. The problem CAN NOT be solved by the very people (politicians) that caused all this mess to begin with. If you kill or put the creatures in jail then the real thugs do not get re-elected. In this day and age all we can do is hope to keep it contained just like an haz.spill. If it spreads to your yard burn it.

Well...maybe as a sorta stop gap measure the Senator could propose legslation the would require Hunters Safety or equvilant is required to purchase or possess a Hi-Pernt

Politics stopping violence, now there is lost art. Matt Dillon and Wyatt Earp were the last of a breed who realized a few concussions stopped a lot of problems

fck it bring the guards in,obviously nopd cant control the crime.the only time i have ever felt safe in new orleans when i lived there was when richard pennington was cheif and after katrina when the guards were here.
these thugs that commit these crimes gives the government an excuse to ban guns.
