Going bare hunting and will be using a Remington 700 30-06. Was thinking about hand loading 165g. The gun seems to like cheep core loc rounds. Bur was looking for a bonded Bullet and better all around Bullet for taking a bare. Any help would be appreciated.

Is 165 gonna be heavy enough? I always assumed the big 200+ grain bullets were what you would want for something like bear, but if the rifle cant shoot them accurately then it wont matter. Personally I would say whatever the heaviest bullet that barrel will group with is the "magic bullet." Its your hunt and you backside so... Good luck on the hunt I will admit some jealousy.

Those cheap Remington Core-locs are some of the finest bullets on the market. They WILL do the job. You may want to go with 180 or 200 gr bullets though.

I use Nosler Accubonds and they have been awesome. Expansion and retention have been great. I have had good experiences with Remington core-locs also but favor the accubond's. Hornady also makes the innerbond which is a great bonded bullet but finding those is a challenge

Yes agree 175s 180s maybe 200 may be better. Will just have to try some out. Finding a place around Baton Rouge to shoot is difficult. Can go to sherburn but never know what the crowed will like. Found some Hornady 175 precision hunters to try for some off the shelf stuff

I hand load for my Rem 700 in 30-06. It's extremely accurate, and accuracy is improved with the cartridge overall length in the 3.30" area. MOA accuracy. or better, at 100 yards.............

My 700 in .30-06 absolutely loves 180 grain core locs. Shoot better than a ton of others I've tried. Heard some reports that the core locs were a little too soft for penetration. But I've also been told that the 180s have a thicker jacket than lighter ones. Makes sense. I've shot a lot of deer with them. Even one that weighed 230 at a quartering to angle. The 180 core loc plowed a beautiful wound channel through and through. Shot was 179 yards. This is only my limited experience.
