Both are great rounds for their designed purpose. Pick the range you're most likely to shoot.
I'd say if you're regularly out at 300 yards and beyond consider the 6.5.
The 6.5 performs better at long ranges and not so well at close ranges. The velocity is fast and the bullets don't expand as well at close range compared to the 308. The 308 perfoms better at close range but not as good at distance. You'll also find that 308 ammo is cheaper and you have a better selection of hunting bullets. Don't obsess over 1/2 MOA if you're predominantly hunting. Bullet performance down range is just as important. Good luck.
