Considering that "Government is a threat to individual liberty" is a founding principle of our country, it's astounding that only 48% of the people agree, at least in abstract, that this is true.

Well, lets look at the definition of government.
"The legal monopoly of force over a given area."


I would say government is main threat to liberty given that it can decide what is legal and what is not.

People easily forget the history lessons learned in grade school.

When my daughter was in second grade this past school year and talked about lessons of how America was formed, etc... she understood it clearly. Leave it to a child to ask some very good, thought provoking questions.

If only the rest of America got it as well.

Hmm, I must hang around those 48% a lot, but I tend to hang around tax payers. I would put the number of tax payers with this opinion closer to 90%.
