Thought I would post this for those interested in come ups for shooting at 600 yards.

This formula works for .223, 7.62mm and .30/06. It will get you on paper and a lot of the time in the black. Caliber, bullet or velocity doesn't matter.

You normally have to touch up the elevation at 600 but the 200 and 300 comeups are usually in the 10 and X rings no matter what rifle you are shooting.

From a 100 yard zero come up 2 minutes for 200 yards.

From a 200 yard zero come up 3 minutes for 300 yards.

From a 300 yard zero come up 12 minutes for 600 yards.

From a 600 yard zero come up 10 minutes for 800 yards.

From a 800 yard zero come up 6 minutes for 900 yards.

From a 900 yard zero come up 6 minutes for 1000 yards.

From a 300 yard zero come up 7 minutes for 500 yards.

From a 500 yard zero come up 5 minutes for 600 yards.

    hope this helps.

Wow! You can shoot that far! Gee whiz! Will you teach me some day? Or maybe I should ask the midget?

The above advice is spot on by the way. Also for those rounds he mentioned, you can calculate your windage by using 1/4 moa for every mph at 300 yds and about 1/2 moa for every mph at 600. It is a good guess to start with. For faster cartridges make adjustments to these formulae by cutting back on your adjustment a little. For instance, the 200 - 600 yd come-up for a .223 is 15 or 16 minutes; for a .300 mag it might only be 13 or 14.

sight adjustments are in minutes of angle. A close approximation of a minute of angle is 1" per 100 yds. For instance, the rear sight on an M1 Garand is a 1 MOA sight. each click of the sight moves the rear sight .008". At 100 yds, a .008" movement of the rear sight will move the bullet impact 1". At 200 yds, the same .008" rear sight adjustment will move the bullet impact 2". At 600 yds, it would be 6". Competiton shooters think in minutes because that is how their sights adjust.

Was I making any sense? If not, let me know.

I shot at 1800 yards before and I have slept in a Holiday Inn Express.
