I know I can take my 40 caliber Glock and put a drop in 9 mm barrel, Can I do it the other way around?

Can I shoot 40 caliber out of my Glock 17 with a drop in a 9 mm barrel?

Not possible. The frames are the same but the slides are different. You can fit a 9mm case in the breach part of the slide on a 40 but not the other way around. The conversion barrel offsets the 9 round to catch the extractor. The case of a 40 is wider and wont fit in a 9mm slide. The only way you can is to get a 40 slide to put on the 17s frame.
