Not Acme, but A.C.M.I. Grease. One of my family members passed away last year and the family passed on to me a lot of his belongings/equipment and tools and such. He was a machinist and a gunsmith for many years so some of the tools really date back. Anyway, I’ve been digging through it all a good while now and yesterday I found a bunch of little stainless tins of grease. It looks like Vaseline but it’s much more dense and you can’t just scoop an amount out of the tin with your finger. I scraped a little out and put it to use this morning and it stays put well, seems to be good and slick. I have no idea what it’s original purpose is. My father tells me that ACMI is a part of Mobil oil products and thinks it’s some sort of clinical grade grease so I’m thinking medical equipment or lab stuff? I’m not sure what all they used in a hospital or lab during the age of this grease, which I’m also guessing is older than me, but I’d like to find out, as I’ve got at least couple hundred of these tins and they’re all in new shape and I’m thinking if it’s good enough for firearms I’d use it there. I’m completely assuming that his purpose for it was firearms related and I have no idea if it’s fit for that but if it is I’d be set.
Anyone have a clue if it’s good or bad for firearms or maybe the intended purpose for this grease? Any info would be great. Thanks!
