    Made my brain hurt, but it's hilarious. Gotta be a joke.

    I think a genius wrote it and the editors were too dense to realize they were getting played.

    I'm expecting this was a satirical letter by a conservative, but honestly either-way is plausible, judging from the letters I've seen printed in local-scope papers.

    It's satire. The line about Chicago being safer than Morehead City should have been the first clue. A real liberal would have capitalized "president" and "black" like the writer did for "Constitution", "Republican" and "Democrat". It's hard to say if the editors were in on the joke. I'd like to think that people who write for a living would recognize satire.
