This past Saturday I bought a Mosin Nagant M44 from Bill at Bullet & Blade.

While I was fighting with the cosmoline, I decided that I wanted to refinish the stock as well.

In my research for the best ways to refurbish this rifle, I used advise from a friend on another forum, and boiled all the small bits to remove the cosmoline. Worked like a charm. I just did it today while the oven cleaner was working on the stock (get to that in a sec). Even without oiling it yet, the bolt moves more smoothly than some NIB bolters I've handled.

For the stock I went with the advise of www.theboxotruth.com and used Easy Off Oven Cleaner, the same kind you get at any grocery store. It made ridiculously fast work of the shellack.

Per TBoT.com's instruction, I'm going to let the stock dry for twenty four hours, then sand and stain.

Pics to come when I'm done in a day or three.

Now I want more MilSurp rifle to restore...

At least it's a relatively cheap hobby...
