So I have been open carrying for a couple of months now and frequent the lafayette academy a lot, at least once a week. I never had a problem until tonight.

I was looking at the wrangler jeans when I noticed a worker in his 40's locked onto my para warthog. I hear him call over another employee and tell her to keep an eye on me and then he calls for a manager. I knew I was about to be asked to leave and tried to ask the girl that was "watching me" a question before the manager came. The guy that called for a manager came over and told me that academys store policy didn't allow guns on the store floor and told me how if you buy a gun there they have to walk you out the store. I explained how I knew that process well as I had bought 5 guns from them last year. I asked if I covered it if it would be o.k. He said no he would know it was there. He said to go put it in the truck and next time to leave it there too. Now I was polite and complient the whole time and was even the one who asked if I should leave before they had a chance to ask me to leave but this is where it goes bad.

When he told me that I couldn't carry concealed and to leave it in my truck next time, I replied with "If that is the store policy I will not be shopping at academy." The guy gets pissed and says if thats the case I need to leave NOW and I guess you would call it "nudged" me towards the door. It was not a full push but there was phisical contact. I remained polite and the other manager walked me to the door. I felt like he had me against a wall cause I had been asked to leave and if I stayed and argued it would be refusing to leave. My mom was with me because she had just taken me and my daughter out to eat while my wife was at work. She went back in and got the guys name who had touched me and I will file a complaint. I gotta give him credit though, I am 6' 300 pounds with a gun on my hip and he still got a little phisical with me. Plus how hipicritical is it of academy to sell you a gun and then tell you they don't trust you with it.

Do you have a CHL? I understand the importance of open carry and support it whole-heartedly, but there are a bunch of sheeple over there buying work-out clothes, soccer shorts and what not and have no idea of responsible gun ownership. It is still a misconception to many. But seriously, what did you expect?

At Barney's, if you have a gun and don't open carry, people will look at you weird and ask you to leave! J/K! ;)

I wonder what's the census at Bass-Pro or Cabella's? Do they have any signs posted. Anyone open carry over there? Conflicts?

No sign at the front door. I am just saying it is a little hipocritical to say they will sell it to me but I can't have it there.

You know eventually they are going to change the law like they did for private property with hunters meaning it is just assumed to be prohibited w/o having to be posted.

As a land owner I like the private property law. When we moved to the country in 1960 it was a bitch to get your property legally posted with fences, signs, running it in the paper. Then they would just tear your signs down.

#1 Why do you want to carry openly so that everyone and there moma can see that you have a gun? We don't live in Hollywood where the bad guy comes if with his gun out screaming "This is a stickup!". Most bad guys will go in and have a look around first or watch who is going in before they make there move. If he sees that you have a gun, he may leave or you may become his first victim.
Then again some people just want everyone to see that they have a gun.
    #2 Get a CCW lic.
#3 Bust their ass for touching you? Make a report, your the victim, right?
You have to take a day off from work, maybe two, to go to court. Boy will your boss be happy.:mamoru: because someone touched you.
Then when you show up to court the guy that touched you and about 4 of his co workers will be there to say that you refused to leave. (there is a charge for Entry/remanning after being forbidden). But if you do win the case they will fine the guy and no one will be giving you money. You will have to go back to court for that.
#4 When you carry, you don't want anybody to know that you are. You will have an edge when things go wrong.
I carry a gun on me everywhere I go, when I leave my house and have done so for the last 8 years. I can't count the times that friends and family have asked, "Do you have your gun on you? I just say, "Do I have pants on?
#5 You knew what was going to happen before it happened and you stayed in place to play it out. Live and learn, some things are not worth your time or the BS that come with it.

Don't most gun shops have a sign forbidding loaded weapons except for on duty LEO? I know shooters does for a fact. Should we boycott shooters club too? How about 10-8?
I agree that they had no right to touch you. I'd let it go though. No blood, no foul. All you'll accomplish if you did win in court, other than getting a few bucks (and that's not supposed to be what this is about) is forcing them to put a sign forbidding even CCW in their store. Or worse, them deciding that selling guns isn't profitable enough to be worth the trouble and we'll loose another gun retailer.

I thought their was a sign at Acaedmy saying no loaded weapons. I once saw a mangers escort a guy with his unloaded gun so he could try some holsters.
Lafayette Shooters and BARNEYS have signs that say all weapons must not be loaded and at Shooters they check the gun as you come in the door ir they see it.

I CC at all times, and go to academy (in Lafayette) a lot. Never noticed the sign. Bass Pro shop has a sign saying guns must be unloaded and checked at the door, you sign a paper and the guy puts a lock on it. But for $10 for a decent indoor range I have no problem with it. Haven't been to cabela's.

I walked in Academy with my P345 in my hand. Open, no mag, and in full sight that it had no ammo, and I stated that I was goin test out the fit of holsters, and I had no troubles, at all. (got a much nicer fit, at a much cheaper price at a gun show, even my gun at the gun show was $90 cheaper)
