I responded to a pt that pulled out his shunt. That was not fun. We got there and he was holding this red towel over the area. Only thing is, the towel had been white when he grabbed it. So we set up a landing zone, had Airmed coming for him, doing all the BLS stuff while waiting on transport and in walks a Paragod from the green machine (Acadian). He asks the pt to show him the problem at which the pt moves the towel and a bright red line shots out and across the room just missing the medic. The pt puts the towel back in place and the medic turns and leaves the room without saying another word. We all started laughing. We wrapped another towel over it, used an ace bandage to keep it in place and got him on the helo a couple minutes later. I have to say, that arteral spray was impressive.
