There are good shop manuals at Brownell's, and other locations on the web, Barnes and Noble sells a good general manual by Sweeny, "The Book of the 1911", Vol's 1 &2.
In short, you are betting with your or others lives and some, not all, but some operations are better left to those who do that for a living.
I have been building 1911's for many years and have found that Ed Brown.com is the best place for me, for quality and price....outstanding and quick service too....Not affiliated at all, I just know something good when I use it or see it.
I use Smith Alexander for mag wells...NOT Cheap !!
Kings Combat for sights....also not cheap, but the best IMHO.
