My old apartment maint lady's husband's bolt action rifle's bolt came out on a hunting trip and went into his face. Don't know the cause of the failure in that one...

the cause of the failure IMHO is that his rifle was not built or serviced by Red Jacket and therefore was just a ticking time bomb. on a more serious note i had a home build that was over headspaced blow up on me like that. the kid who built bragged and bragged about how good a job he did and then i shot it and it blew apart just like that.

After watching the AK vid, now I don't want a AK, or more like, "Do I really want a AK?" Despite that, I have a Remington 700, and I hope it doesn't blow up like that one on the second when I finally get to shoot it. I'll be sure to check the barrel before loading.

Ak's are pretty safe to shoot (at least on the operators end) and have a pretty high reliability track record. You can have catastrophic failures happen with any firearm. I wouldn't worry about an ak blowing up on you, not likely to happen.

You didn't see the shooter hurt, now did you? The explosion follows the path of least resistance, which in this case is either straight up or straight down. By the way don't hold the mag when you're shooting. Hold the fore-grip like you're supposed to.
