It's hot....?...temp wise not Paris Hilton wise...

Seriously though that’s a pretty broad question ;)

For sure the Alex area is not suffering more so than anywhere else. Business is moving and developments are still popping up everywhere. Lots of Job opportunities depending on line of work etc. Right down the road from Alex you have Marksville with the Casino area too.

From someone who grew up in Alexandria - WTF ARE YOU THINKING?!?!?!?!?!

Where are you moving from? What are you interested in? WHY did you pick the Alexandria area instead of Lafayette, Shreveport, Baton Rouge?

Contrary to my son's previous post I relocated here in 2006 and have been please with that decision. there are many things to consider however. I much prefer a town where I can get from one end to the other in 20 or 30 minutes unlike the bigger cities. If you are younger and prefer having a lot of activities, large malls and plenty of good restaurants then the cities he referred to are probably where you wish to be. I hunt, golf and shoot here in Alexandria and have all of those things I like. We do have several chain restaurants as well as some good local ones. We are 2 hours to Baton rouge, Shreveport and Lafayette and 3.5 hours to New Orleans.

Alexandria isn't bad. Like stated above, not alot of night activities to partake of. If your into bars, there are several, but nothing compared to Lay. or BR. My personal opinion is stay away from Oakdale, not somewhere I would want to live ever!!!!! If your looking for something close to ALex. perhaps Woodsworth, its a more country setting than say Ball or Pineville, either of which isn't that bad.

Make sure you move to pinville or ball... You'll have to get beer in PX on Camp B or go to cougar stop because it's dry on this side of river... But I like living on this side alot better. Alexandria has kinda high crime for it's size.

Woodworth is nothing but a road for cops to hide on and give bs tickets. F that place! lol

I go to Alexandria for work alot, and it seems like a decent place. But I'm the kind of guy that would HATE living in BR. All that big city traffic isn't for me.

Consider south of Alexandria if you ever think you'd drive to Baton Rouge or Lafayette very often. I'd personally stay out of Alexandria. We live in the Philadelphia Community (near Libuse outside of Pineville) and it's a nice quiet place. I enjoy it. But the city of Alex is terrible. Personally if I had a spot to pick and be "fairly" close to Alexandria I'd go for one of the small communities off of I49 between Alexandria and Lafayette.

It mostly depends where in Alex. I live in the "good" section and STILL see crime. The areas near here with really expensive (and HUGE houses) sees similar crime to me. See my previous post about a hot break-in and ADT. http://www.bayoushooter.com/forums/...rglary-just-averted-Thank-you-ADT!&highlight=

A LOT of things changed after katrina. They emptied the armpit of NOLA here, and they stayed. But hey, at least Walmart has their guns back out on display now!!!

Really? I've only passed through there but have family around there in the small towns around it that I rarely see. Always thought I might end up there one day.

Crime is the Louisiana way I guess. Can't be as bad as Shreveport though right?

I was born and raised in CENLA, but probably wouldn't like inside Alex. I've just never really lived in a city since I was a child in Bunkie, LA. Lots of hunting/fishing area east of that side of the state too.

So true. We used to live in Alex and I am so glad we moved to this side of the river. I wouldn't have thought it would make that much difference, but it does. If the fact that it's dry bothers you, Alexandria or one of the stores that does sell alcohol is not that far.

4Worst Small Cities for Crime (<200,000 pop.).Alexandria, LA low.
Alexandria has the fourth-highest violent crime rate in the nation. Murder and assault are a problem in particular, but the rate of forcible rape is low. My wife is a Paramedic here too.. Awile back there was a post about 80% of people shot with handgun survive. My wife was reading over my shoulder and said that aperently that doesn't apply around here because her personal stats are alot more around 75% die. And yes smokers paridise does sell beer.
