I traded for a Savage .17HMR from a fellow member a while back , and I kinda like the little rifle . :) So far I haven't had a problem getting ammo , in fact , I just ordered some from CABELLA'S for $10.99 /box along with a spare mag .

Yep. Marlin 917 here. Fun little gun to shoot. Mine really likes the hornady vmax, is that what you got for 10.99/box?

    +1

My 917 is fun to shoot. Hornady v-max runs just fine through mine. I've had trouble with CCI TNT not wanting to load once. That's the only problem I've ever encountered.

I love both of my Savages.Have a old one with no adjustable trigger and a newer one. The are death on foxes at about 275 yds and a red spotlight.

How far are you guys shooting your 917's? I've hard 1/2" at 50 is possible but by the time your out to 100 they are well above 1".

Just curious. I looked at one in Wally World tonight and it's significantly cheaper than some of the reportedly more accurate 17hmr jobs.

I have had a savage 17 hmr since it first came out, it has killed hundreds of ground hogs and squirrels over the 5 years or so.. it pretty accurate and can shoot better than I do..

Bought the Savage .17 hmr 93R17 with the accu-trigger and gray laminate stock. Put a Leupold VX II 3-9x40 on it and never looked back. I only shoot the Hornady 17gr V-Max to keep shots consistent. I call it my mini sniper rifle. It's amazing how devestating the .17 hmr round is. Savage is coming out with tactical versions on there 17 hmr models as well as some dressed up models. Heres a link for those interested.

Savage Model 93R17 GV in left hand. Accurate rifle. It mimics my bolt action deer rifle- practice with it year round......

What do you guys use to clean your barrel ? I saw a rod at Academy today but it was uncoated steel . Do they make a Boresnake that small ?
