Don't give job related advice on the internet unless it's to another LEO who actually asked for it.

    Might save some headache.

Also, get some Gator Skin, you'll need it.

    NOLA/Northshore!
    Be professional and courteous.
Don't get in pissing matches with other LEOs - if they act unprofessional, just be polite and professional and report it up your chain, let them handle it.
You get more flies with honey...
ALWAYS establish PC BEFORE you pull someone over...
The pen is mightier than the sword... (aka - good report writing)
When you're off duty, carry concealed and conceal your belt badge, don't wear it openly. This is an officer safety issue...
When around senior officers/deputies - eyes and ears open, mouth closed.
STAY IN SHAPE, iron your uniform, polish your gear. Nothing screams worse than a sloppy fat deputy or officer! If you gear gets worn, replace it. Don't wear raggity gear.
MAINTAIN your firearm/s and less lethal force gear.
    Get hinged cuffs.

Learn insurance laws before you tow someone's car....

I'm still pissed about the dumbass rookie that towed mine. The D.A. apologized and dropped the case entirely when I told him what happened, but it doesn't change the fact I had to watch them tow my new car for no damn reason and pay an impound fee.

LEARN THE LAW!!!!! Thats the best thing you can do.

And I'm not trying to cop bash, just aggravated with my most recent encounter 4 years on my best behavior no tickets or anything and buying a used car gets me in trouble when there was no reason for it. Congratulations not a lot of people take that leap and even fewer get hired.

Just be careful out there, buddy.

Kudos to you. You have chosen an honorable profession that obviously dosen't always get the recognition that it should.

Live your life a little cleaner than the next guy.

    Don't take anything personal.
Most of the morons you arrest couldn't pick you out of a lineup if their lives depended on it.
All they see is a uniform, not the person in it.

Don't speed just because you can . I'm watching you .

Do you mean like if you work for BRPD and on your way home in LP late at night don't turn left on red when I've been sitting waiting for the light to change? ;)

Most important thing. Go home safe and in one piece to your family after every shift. Good luck and God be with you.
