As the title says, is anyone open water certified looking to get NITROX certified?

Was looking to see if anyone is interested in doing a group class, I plan on taking it at Caribbean Dive Shop in Metairie, but need a group of 6 or more to have the class. It's a $75 deposit for the study material and pay the rest when you arrive for the class or $200 for study material and the class.

Besides it's a little to cold right now to get wet for advanced open water and dive master training.

I'm trying to get as much as I can done by the summer to work my way up to Dive Master.

    $200 total for class/materials? I'm in.

What is the total cost? I read 2 bones for class and books. Where are the check out dives going to be, how many dives/days? Many shops suck you in and stick you on the back side. Not saying this shop does and I have never heard of them but I am just asking approx total cost. Thanks

Nitrox is classroom only, no checkout dives are required. The folks at Caribbean Dive Shop are GOOD people; been around forever and know their stuff.

Be sure to bring your calculator. Search around the net and you can find cheat sheets for max depth and oxygen exposure. I like NOAA tables. If you don't have a dive computer, get one.

Build your own O2 analyser and save big bucks. El Cheapo II.

What I've found is that if you only do two tanks a day you don't get much increase in bottom time. Doing more than two and your N2 intake gets to be an issue and running EAN32 will greatly extend your bottom time. Had a long talk with a hyperbaric nurse in Cozumel a couple years ago. From her observations, once you hit 50 the incidence of DCS spikes up. Her strong suggestion was on a two tank day to use Nitrox on the second tank and run it on air tables. On three or more tanks a day use Nitrox all day but run the first two on air tables. Don't forget your O2 exposure and MOD and keep track of that even though you're offgassing by the air tables.

my first dives were in the puget sound, in january. 36f and sleeting, and 46f water temp.

needed 14mm around the core, and the lips got so numb you couldnt hold the regulator! lol
