After 13 years of dipping and trying to quit a handful of times, I have finally decided to quit the nasty tobacco habit. Knowing it will be tough at times, I am really going to give this my all. Has any of my fellow BS-er's quit their choice-of-tobacco habit, or, are trying to quit now. If so, any tips or advice would be helpful. I'm pretty sure I have the drive to stop, that's not the big problem. The problem is going to be those anxious moments throughout the day and not popping in a big ol' lug to calm the nerves. I have cut back tremendously over the last 2 weeks and it's going well. My mega order of tobacco-less "dip" just arrived and here's hoping that the next few weeks/months are easier and better than the first 2 weeks.

Smokeless tobacco is one of the nastiest, disgusting habits a human being can have.

I can think of 1000 reasons to quit and only 1 reason not to.

    I simply love it.

My best wishes are with you, brother. I think if I could manage to stop for a day, I could stop forever, but I can't (and don't really want) to stop.

Quit cigs sept 13 of 2007. Chantix worked well. That and I continued my habits, just removed the cigs. For example, when I wanted one, I would get a glass of water and go to the smoke pen (or outside at home) and drink my water. Before long, the association of smoking was gone. Worked like a champ.

I take non-smoking breaks with the rest of the smokers at work.

I consider quitting all the time, just have not decided to. I try to limit myself. One in the morning after breakfast, one when I get home from work and one more in the evening. That is during the week. Weekend depends on what Im doing.

Good luck. The best advice I was ever given is to just quit.
No weening, no making deals with yourself about only smoking on Tuesday,
none of that silly crap. It worked for me.

I finally reached the threshold of quitting a 3 pack a day deadly lifestyle 21 years ago. I have never wanted to go back and have treasured every single day of being tobacco free. Good luck to you as this can be your threshold too. Just crossover, slam the door and don't look back.

I quit in 2005, 3 packs a day, no patches, gum, just put em down, water works really good, it only takes 5 days for the drug to leave your body, you can do 5 days

A buddy of mine stopped dipping and started popping sunflower seeds in its place; he quit almost cold turkey. Took him another year to kick the sunflower seed habit though.

I was smoking a half pack a day up until a couple years ago, mostly due to the group of friends I had. Quit hanging out when them and I dropped the habit cold turkey. I still have a smoke or 2 if I'm out drinking, but they are spanned months apart.

the best part of quitting is all the freeloaders... you know who they are... everyone has the one friend who smokes but doesn't buy cigarettes and bums off of everyone else.

Kudos to all of you that have quit and not looked back. I plan on being able to say that soon. You would think that spending about $200 a month would be reason enough to quit. But I'm ready now. I'll probably be checking back in a few months and asking for advice on dieting because after stocking up on cookies, gum and candy, I'm sure to pack on a few lbs. I've tried the seeds before, but it doesn't take long for my mouth to become shredded from the shells. Looks like lots of water may be the ticket.

I quit smoking @ 10 years after 20 years of smoking. Zyban/Welbutrin knocked the edge off long enough for me to get a day, then two days, then I felt stupid to think about smoking again. Get a toehold, and hang on. I tried to look at my cravings as a chance to exercise my strength (on my good days), or a thorn in my ass (on my bad ones).

    Hang on. You'll live longer.

My Father in Law quit Cold Turkey after lung surgery to remove half of his right lung from cancer. He had been a two pack a day smoker for fifty years and a Welder. He replaced the cigarettes with double mint gum. It didn't tear his mouth up like seeds. With the money he saved from quitting cigarettes he spent many hours a week in retirement at his passion; craps at the Hollywood Casino tables! He and the entire Family were much happier and healthier as a result.
