A libertarian not voting for Vitter because of the affair scandal does not understand the definition of a libertarian. Libertarians are for very limited federal government, (protect our shores and borders) and believe that what someone does in their private life is no one else's business. It is interesting that some libertarians on here are bashing Vitter for private indiscretions. By definition, you are more conservative than libertarian. He has been a great senator for Louisiana regardless of what he has done in his private life, and I was proud to cast my early vote for him. Not only has he opposed that socialist Obama regime at every turn, he has an A+ rating from the NRA. What part of A+ NRA rating do you people not understand????? I will always vote for someone who aggressively fights for my 2A rights and does not compromise them.

    +1

Last time I checked, Libertarians disapproved of criminalizing an otherwise legal activity when compensation is asked or offered.

Wow. -Are you for real? Did you REALLY type that? Don't you realize that the 2A is the great Equalizer/Antithesis to the destruction of our Federal Constitution? Don't make me quote some T. Jeff on 'ya! :D

Haha, well after reading some of the replies I think people are reading that the wrong way. :)

It was mainly in response to the folks who say "Charlie Melancon supports gun rights, and I don't like Vitter, so I'll vote for Charlie" as if *the only* important thing is whether or not a guy supports "gun rights," whatever that may be.

What I was getting at is that you shouldn't just say "oh this guy is good on guns" and vote for him, you need to look at the rest of the candidate. If the guy is a big-government, big-spending, redistribute the wealth type socialist the rest of the way, how long do you think those gun rights he supports are going to last?

Charlie Melancon is about as strong a gun rights advocate as Barry Obama. It's just something he says to get more votes and seem more moderate; there's no substance behind it. Vitter on the other hand is an active pro-gun senator who actually authors legislation and pushes the pro-gun agenda. And he stands for the other ideas that go along with strong belief in the second amendment.

Ok,. do not vote for Vitter. Vote for the Demorcatic candidate that supports ALL of Obama's objectives. It is your gun that will eithe rbe taken or you will not be able to buy ammo for it when Obama finishes his agenda.

Note what the anti gun Congressmen have been doing for guns in the last two years in the background. They want their ducks lined up before attacking gun rights and the more support they have from Senators, the more easily they will get their wishes.

But then most here are too young to remember the Clinton anti gun years, the anti gun bills and the anti gun laws. All passed by coming in the back door rather than the front.

I hope everyone can put aside their social agendas and unite behind a small government agenda. If we reduce the size of our government, most of the social issues can be taken care of by process of eliminating the agency that was causing the issue in the first place.

Don't like Gay Marriage... Support Gay marriage? I have a solution for both of you, the Government will stop regulating marriage and it will be recognized by the Churches or in the case of non church going crowd, their social organization, and we can eliminate a tax and save a boat load of money at the same time!

That is just one example, but as we eliminate government agencies we will eliminate issues created by these agencies that creates a "Left" and "Right" in this country. Only those that support a socialist agenda and those that want to control other peoples lives will be left unsatisfied.

As far as Vitter is concerned, he is has a history of adding pork just like most of the Senate. I don't care if he sleeps with a hooker every night if he votes the way I want him to. He votes for me, he does not represent who I am. I would love to have a libertarian in the Senate, but its not going to happen with a half ass campaign. If someone gets serious and actually runs a good campaign, I have no doubt a Libertarian could get a shot at the seat.

I don't care that he spent time with a prostitute. I don't really have a problem with even legalizing the trade. I do see that he is married and cheated on his wife with a prostitute which makes me question his character. It's also about his crap campaign where he talks little about him or his plans for the office and more about how Melancon blows Obama everyday. It is more about the quality of man I percieve him to be.

    At a glance......

He voted against a limit on farm subsidies, He voted to extend unemployment benefits, voted against a bill that would require the secretary of the treasury to submit annual reports on foreign debts and their risk, supported the Patriot act and reauthorization, voted against investigation of waste in Iraq contracts, voted against gay marriage....

All of which would seem not so Libertarian.

I don't usually discuss my votes but I voted for Wooton. I knew Vitter would win but with all the support Wooton has given us on firearms legislation I wanted to return some of that with my vote.
