I'm looking into getting a 1911. I would love the Ruger, but can't find it anywhere. I have a friend that has a Rock Island and loves it. The price is nice as well. Anyone with any experience with this brand.. good or bad?

I have owned one for about 3 or 4 weeks now, standard GI with a high polish. got it in trade, and I fired about 150 rounds through it the day i got it and have been concealing it most days since. No complaints here.

Personally I would probably go with the STI Spartan for $100-200 more. With that said I know a few people with the RIA and they are all happy. My cousin just picked up a GI model and the finish is REALLY thin but other than that it is a nice pistol.

The frame (maybe the slide?) are RIA/Armscor but a lot of the other parts are upgraded and it is all assembled and fitted in the USA.

I have a High Standard which is one of these phillipine imports also. I don't like 1911s but I thought I should own a "historical type" one. I like it, it works great and it is fun to shoot. Just don't compare it to a TRP or something like that.

The ones I have shot worked well. The Park finish is okay, the parts are mim...... but they seem to work fine. I don't know of anyone who has taken one through a long (high round count) class though.

    I'd own one.

Are there any stores in the Baton Rouge area that sell Rock Island 1911s? I am interested in getting one too but they are a little hard to find.
