I've done an AK cruise (up from Seattle) and it was great, but probably not for everyone. I've also done it by land, including the train up from Anchorage to Denali. They both have their plusses and minuses based on what you are into.
The cruise was in late June and probably the perfect time to go. Light jacket was perfect.
The excursions were great on the cruise (Holland) , so don't overlook that. Except the halibut trip that was cancelled for the seas. We did Juneau, Sitka, Ketchican and Victoria (BC, CA) for ports and did a few days in Seattle before boarding.
