If you want off the shelf built uppers then you will probably want to stick with 5.56, 300BO, 6.8SPCII. There is also 458 SOCOM, 277 wolverine, 6.5 Grendel, 450 Bushmaster, The Olympia Arms WSM series and OSSM rounds. There are also tons of wildcats for the round if you like fire forming your own brass and loading your own rounds.

    Forgot pistol rounds......9mm, 22lr, 45 and 10mm.

what he said plus one of my favorites Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf. Google "AR-15 uppers" and you can spend a couple hours looking at what's available.
Forget the pistol rounds is right.

not for .300 BO, same mags as 5.56mm or .223 remington.
7.62x39 cartridge has a pronounced taper to it. To get it to feed properly in an AR, you need a curved mag. Similar to what is used with the AK-47.

Parent case for the .300 BO is the .223 remington.

    and don't forget, same BCG.
The only thing different when going from 5.56 to .300AAC is the barrel and muzzle device.
I wonder how many times somebody shoved a mag full of 5.56 into a AR in .300....

Putting a mag of .22 bullets in a .30 cal barrel is not a big deal, you just ruin brass. With 110 & 125 grain bullets in the 300 BO you can get those chambered in a 5.56 barrel and that can ruin your day. Seen it done already. Shooter had to get a new barrel and drawers for that trick.

I wouldn't think the bolt would go into battery in a case like that. .30 cal bullet would only go so far

The bullet gets pushed deeper into case. Wouldn't try it with a 200+ grain bullet though. Have seen a couple on the internet that swaged a 30 cal. 150 gr bullet and shoved it about half way down the barrel turning it to a 150 gr. .224 bullet about 6" long.
