The Chive is my EDC little knife for work. It works well for opening stuff and honestly is a great knife for 99% of everyday non-wilderness-man activities. It holds a decent edge too.
One note for the Chive. Mine came with the little blade lock thing on there. I didn't have the tool to get it off, but I was at Jim's Firearms Saturday and Brian there did and he managed to get it off. Big help and much better not having it on. I hate blade locks. A lot.
If you decide to go with a Kershaw, check out kershawguy.com
He doesn't carry the complete line of Kershaws but has a decent variety. He also sells what Kershaw considers blemishes that will save you a few bucks. I've bought from him a few times before. Free USPS Priority Mail shipping and I usually receive my order the same week.
heh I still swear by my ten dollar Mtech's off amazon. I bought 3 and am still not having any problems with the first one yet, 6 mos later. I own a kershaw, I own a few gerbers - this Mtech is my favorite edc knife.
I have carried a Kershaw BOA for 8 years as an EDC and the only negative is that it is discontinued and I'll have trouble finding a replacement when this one wears out!
I would highly recommend taking the little blade stop thing out. It's just a pain in the butt...and the knife isn't going to open in your pocket anyways :P
I've owned over ten different kershaw knives, they all had problems with the little tiny screws coming loose and the back edge of the blade, where it makes contact with the lock has beveled its self over time and can close when locked if pushed to hard.
That said. The leek is still one of my favorite EDC knives.
I'm actually carrying a $20 Camillus from academy to try them out. So far I like the knife, except the lack of spring assisted opening.
