I have had them take over two months to get a reply.
My suggestion is that you call ATF and ask them to expedite it due to your upcoming trip.
Believe it or not, they are really good people and will usually accommodate reasonable requests like this.

I always wonder how many LEOs out there would actually know to ask for a Form 20.

Call the ATF and ask if you can fax it in and how long it might take to receive a response.

I called the NFA branch, they put me through to the examiner. Explained my situation. Got it back approved this morning (via email). I tell you what, that's some damn good customer service for a government agency. And my second good experience with these NFA folks so far.

I got a question, What if you are going to a different address, but in the same state on the form?
