    TROOP D NEWS RELEASE
    January 28, 2015

Trooper and Officer Save the Life of a DeRidder Woman

LAKE CHARLES - On January 27, 2015, shortly before 3:00 p.m., Trooper Gary Smith was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 14 near 3rd Street in Lake Charles when he was flagged down by several people standing in a parking lot. Trooper Smith pulled into the parking lot behind a vehicle and was informed that the passenger in the front seat, later identified as Gloria M. Davidson of DeRidder, was not breathing. Trooper Smith checked for a pulse on Davidson and was unable to find one.

Trooper Smith removed Davidson from the vehicle and placed her on the ground. Trooper Smith then started administering CPR. About this time Corporal Benjamin Randolph of the Lake Charles City Police Department arrived and took turns with Trooper Smith administering CPR. During this time, Davidson began breathing intermittently.

Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene and instructed Trooper Smith and Corporal Randolph to continue performing CPR. They performed CPR until Acadian transported Ms. Davidson to St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles where she is currently receiving care.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR, is an emergency procedure performed in an effort to manually preserve brain function until further measures are taken to restore blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest. The Louisiana State Police encourages everyone to learn CPR. Information on CPR training may be obtained from various organizations including the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Charles, you are so right! Short story, we trained everyone at my place of employment on CPR. less than two months after training, an employee was at his father's house when his father fell flat on his back. The employee checked and there was no pulse and not breathing. He immediately started CPR and continued it until paramedics arrived. He saved his father's life and credits us for training him.
