Heres a walking staff I made last week. I seen on another site and decided I wanted to make one. Its made of bamboo, the top section contains a firesteel, fishing line, fishing hooks and weights. Added a paracord wrap for the handle with a lanyard. Thanks for looking.

Very nice. How did you go about finishing it? Air dry, sand and use a torch to create some burn marks then varnished it or linseed oil?

It is all over, can't drive anywhere without seeing it. Mine is only 2 years old, but this years shoots are atleast 20ft tall. A couple years and I should be able to harvest some for projects.

I've torched the bamboo both while green and after its been cut and "yellowed " a bit. Either way, it comes out the same. Just remember to drill small holes at the base of each section to allow venting. Otherwise it will split when heating.
I chose the firesteel over a lighter because I always have my lighter in my pocket, even though I'm not a smoker. And I just like making fire with a firesteel for practice.

Just thought I'd bump this thread and share what I built as inspired by the OP's hiking stick.
