Our stash is about 6 weeks' worth of MREs. We live on a small lake, so there's a decent supply of fish (bass, perch) and water that we can boil in a pinch. Not to mention about 30 of these guys that seem to be hanging around just for the occasion (the ducks, not the kid)

Speaking of MRE's, What is the shelf life? I have some from Hurricane Rita.

Depends on the brand. If they are the "civilian" ones, not too long, and they usually all have an expiration date.

I find the best things to stock up on are things you actually eat, but most people seem to forget basic cleaning supplies, cold medicine, headache medicine, spices, condiments, things like that.

Spend one week/month writing down the things you use on a regular basis in your house, and you'll be amazed at the things you've never thought to stock up on.

dried pasta is pretty good too, itll last forever, easy to cook(you can just soak in warm water for 30 instead of boil for 8).
